The Buzzer wins Best Blog at the 2010 APTA AdWheel awards!

The Buzzer's APTA AdWheel award certificate!

Some lovely news: the Buzzer blog was named Best Blog at the 2010 American Public Transportation Association (APTA) AdWheel Awards!

To be specific, the Buzzer blog took the Best Blog prize among “public transportation systems with more than 20 million passenger trips annually,” which means we’re the top blog among the largest public transit systems in North America. The AdWheel Awards celebrate the best in marketing and communications from APTA members, so it truly is a wonderful honour to win!

I should mention that it’s not TransLink’s first time winning an AdWheel Award. In 2009, we won Best Internet Homepage for translink.ca, and Best Public Relations/Awareness or Educational Campaign for our Transit Secure ads. And in 2007 we won Best Campaign for a series of lovely recruitment ads.

But yes, this year is the blog’s chance to shine—so thanks so much to APTA, and thanks to everyone who makes this blog a part of your reading! The blog would not be so successful without you!

(PS: Here’s the full list of 2010 AdWheel winners, in case you’re curious :)

    Another well deserved accolade.

    Congrats Jhen!
Looking forward to more “behind the scenes” articles… Like stories about the various departments and subsidiaries of Translink…
(Many years ago, I was a Traffic Checker. Maybe one day you could do a little article about the remaining Traffic Checkers? How many are left, etc…)

Good to see APTA confirming what Buzzer Blog readers already know. Congratulations, Jhenifer!

Sean: of course! And do tell: what’s a traffic checker?

  • By Jacob, November 8, 2010 @ 7:53 pm

Another reason why you deserve a pay raise!

    Good job, Jhenifer.

I clicked on a like-button, and was going to leave it at that, but I think that you deserve props straight from the heart. :^)

CMBC Scheduling and Analysis has “Traffic Checkers” that get assigned out to various timing points or “maximum load points” to monitor and record ridership info and actual arrive/leave times of buses… They record information that is then used to adjust schedules or service levels etc…
When I did that job, there were a certain number of full timers- year round staff, that were then “beefed up” with seasonal temps that assisted when schools were in session… I think we had nearly 40 or so at one time, way back when…
But ever since the company bought the newer fareboxes, and invested in newer counting technologies, the number of Checkers has slowly reduced down to something like just 8 people now???

I agree with Jacob… time for a pay raise! Let’s make it a weekly poll!

Congrats… did someone break the frame. ;)

  • By Jhenifer Pabillano - Buzzer Editor, November 9, 2010 @ 1:40 pm

Andy: Yes: the frame came in the mail so I think it got cracked on the way over. Oh well, it’s the contents that count :)

    Congratulations!

Frankly, this blog doesn’t just excel in the public transit field (do other transit agencies have blogs, too!?), but I’ve seen my share of blogs on a variety of topics, and this one is one of the best blogs out there, in any area of interest, be it public or private, personal or corporate.
