Evergreen Extension Anniversary: a year ago today it opened

With the cutting of the ribbon, the Evergreen Extension opened on December 2, 2016!

Whew! Has it been a year already? It sure has. The Evergreen Extension opened to the public at 12 p.m. on December 2, 2016 for revenue service. With that, the SkyTrain became one of the longest, automated driverless rapid transit systems in the world!

On this occasion, we’re going to take a trip down memory lane on the Buzzer blog!

On August 7, 2013, crews remove the form to reveal the first guideway column (Photo: Province of BC/Flickr).
These customers were the first in line to ride the new Evergreen Extension at Coquitlam Central Station on December 2, 2016.
On November 27, 2015, “Alice”—the tunnel boring machine—broke through, completing the 2 k.m. tunnel between Moody Centre and Burquitlam stations. This tunnel is the longest on the SkyTrain network.
We rigged up a Mark I car to test clearances on the Evergreen Extension.
