The new Commercial-Broadway Station entrance is open!

The new 10th Avenue entrance at Commercial-Broadway Station!

The new 10th Avenue entrance at Commercial-Broadway Station!

Hey—the new 10th ave entrance at Commercial-Broadway Station is now open!

Go ahead and use it: there’s a lovely new staircase leading up to platforms 3 and 4, a shiny new up escalator, plus great new lighting and glass walls at the ground level. (See the full list of upgrades here — plus here’s what it used to look like.)

Just be aware of a couple of things:

  • The elevator is still out: it’s awaiting inspection and will be working soon!
  • The ticket vending machines at the new entrance are cash-only today.
  • Watch out: some construction is still going on!
  • An official opening will happen in a few weeks.

I have to say it’s pretty exciting that the new entrance is open so soon. Remember that the initial end date was December 2009? Plus, it’s great that we never had to close the station during the whole upgrade period!

OK, now here’s a few more photos of the new station entrance, plus links to past upgrade posts.

The old elevator in Broadway Station is gone!

Notice anything different?

Notice anything different?

Just a post to point out the old elevator in Broadway Station is gone! It’s crazy how spacious it feels there now. (Here’s what it used to look like.)

If you hadn’t heard, the elevator was removed because we’re upgrading Broadway Station to better handle customer traffic and security. A new elevator will be installed at the other end of the platform by fall—in the meantime, you can use the Commercial Station elevator to get up to the Broadway platform.

Anyway, I’m told another official update on the Broadway Station upgrades will be coming soon, so I’ll have more detail then on how everything is progressing. And here’s the past posts about the upgrade if you want more info:

Broadway Station elevator closes for three months starting June 1

You may have seen the signs up at Broadway Station already (and the note in the print Buzzer!), but here’s a friendly reminder to all the Broadway Station elevator users out there.

As part of the Broadway SkyTrain Station upgrades, the elevator at Broadway Station will be taken out of service next Monday, June 1 for approximately three months.

If you need an elevator, please go to Commercial Drive Station across the street, take the elevator there, and then cross over to Broadway Station on the platform level.

We’re really sorry about this inconvenience, but when construction is complete, the entire station will be easier to access!

Broadway Station gets an upgrade

Did you see the TransLink staff out at Broadway Station this morning? They were out to let everybody know that the station is getting renovated starting this November! (The staff will also be there on Nov. 6, 12, 13, and 15, in case you want to catch their info session again.)

Before you ask, YES, Broadway Station will remain open during the upgrades!

And here’s a little more information about exactly what renovations you can expect to see at the station, and how the project came about.
