#5, N6 reroutes to stay in place until fall 2010

Downtown Vancouver transit riders, look out: the #5 and N6 will be staying on their current Paralympic reroutes until fall 2010.

Here’s the reason: starting on May 3, 2010, the City of Vancouver will begin work on the Robson Square Mound North Plaza Remediation project. To accommodate this construction, Robson Street will be closed to all traffic in both directions between Howe Street and Hornby Street until September 2010.

So, since the #5 and N6 are already on reroute off Robson Square for the Paralympics, CMBC has decided to keep these re-routings from now until the construction is completed in fall 2010. The existing reroute already avoids Robson Square by using Thurlow/Smithe/Burrard/Pender, and keeping the reroute will help minimize customer confusion and maximize safety.

Edit: I’ve re-uploaded the PDF file as the arrows were pointing the wrong way on page 1. The new file is called “r5_temproute_march2010.pdf” in case you’re wondering if you have the right one downloaded. Thanks Robert for the catch!

Also if anyone is wondering, we’re told the Remediation project is a Provincial project to rehabilitate the buildings around Robson Square, including the reconstruction of the City Street.
