Reminder: phase 2 Sapperton/United Boulevard workshop on Sat Apr 30, plus notes from the last workshop

So, just a reminder: the Sapperton/United Boulevard Extension workshops are still ongoing, and the last workshop in the second phase will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Sapperton Pensioners Hall in New Westminster!

Phase two of the workshop series is about refining the concepts presented in phase one: you can find out much more about the workshops and the project on the main Sapperton/United Boulevard page, and in the past Buzzer posts on this topic.

Also, the public consultation team has passed along wrapup notes from the last workshop. Here they are!

As many of you know, the Sapperton/United Boulevard Extension process is underway. In Phase 1, we listened to your community values, transportation concerns and ideas to address these concerns (read the meeting minutes to find out what we heard from workshop 1 and workshop 2).

We’ve now moved to Phase 2, where we’ve turned your ideas/concerns into potential concepts for the extension.

The first workshop in this phase took place on April 13, 2011. We had another full house with 70 or so people in attendance. Our engineering consultants presented five potential concepts—which they developed based on your input from Phase 1. These concepts were evaluated on four key considerations: community values, reasonable affordability, meeting project objectives and technical feasibility. Check out the information boards and presentation to review the concepts and findings.

The two concepts that best met this criteria were carried forward for further discussion with participants to identify what they liked, didn’t like and additional community improvements that could be made. (You can read the meeting minutes to see what kind of input we received).

Thanks to everyone who provided their input on these concepts. The team is now considering your input as they refine and improve the two concepts. We look forward to seeing you on April 30 to continue the discussion.
