I spent this morning helping at the Bike to Work Week commuter station at Metrotower II in Burnaby! Here’s some photos and commentary about what went down. (You can see my earlier Bike to Work Week posts here and here.)

TransLink staff Paul Cheng and Polly Ng were in charge of the table, with treats from Cafe Elim kindly donated by Ivanhoe Cambridge. We had about 15 to 20 commuters drop by to grab a snack or get a bike tune-up, courtesy of Cap’s Bicycle Shop.

We heard one commuter say that she biked all the way from UBC, and the journey was way shorter than she expected. Hopefully that means we’ve got a bike-to-work convert!

Lots of people who didn’t cycle to work still came by to talk to us. Many actually wanted to talk bikes, although a few just wanted to scam some free food! Polly and Paul were happy to tell people about the Metrotower bike lockup facilities supplied by Ivanhoe Cambridge, winter biking tips, and where helmets can be found at a good price. We also handed out Burnaby cycling maps, TransLink regional bike maps, and info about the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition.

Another rider told us they had biked in from Port Moody this morning! Quite a long distance, but the commuter in question wasn’t fazed. He said he enjoyed the ride and tried to do it whenever he could.

And finally, everybody was remarking on the great winter cycling weather we’ve had this week. We were rain-free all week except for today!
