Reroutes for the 5, 17, and N6 from Aug 3 to Sept 6

Reroutes for the 5, 17, and N6 from Aug 3 to Sept 6

Watch out, downtown trolley riders!

Owing to construction at Granville and Robson, there will be reroutes for the 5, 17 and N6 for about a month: Monday August 3 to Sunday September 6.

Instead of trying to describe the route changes in words, here are some reroute maps kindly provided by CMBC to help you visualize what’s going to happen.

Here we go!

You can see the route has changed between Thurlow and Homer, but the rest remains the same. Click the photos to see larger images of these maps. You can also download the PDF maps here:

Looks like the downtown path is just a little bit shorter.

Edit: Important note here — after 8 p.m., the #17 is now being rerouted further into town because it was discovered by TComm and the Transit Supervisors that there would be no additional cost in vehicles to route the #17 further into town after 8 pm. The after-8:00pm routing is Seymour, Pender, Homer, Hastings, Howe to regular route. (Sadly our map expert is away at the moment, so I don’t have a map on hand!)

Like the 5, the N6 has some changes between Thurlow and Homer, but not for the rest of the route. Click the photos to see larger images of these maps. You can also download the PDF maps here:

Edit: Also, I just wanted to add a statement from CMBC here, to give all these changes a bit of context.

The CoV is currently working at a torrid pace to finish projects around the City, such as the Granville Mall. CMBC does its best to accommodate these construction projects, but it is not always an exact science. This is especially true with trolley buses as our reroute options are limited to roadway with existing trolley overhead. We appreciate our customers’ patience during these construction caused reroutes as we try to provide consistent detours with the least amount of impact. Please also note that the priority for all of these reroutes is to ensure the safety of our customers and Operators.
