Phase 2 of the Surrey Rapid Transit Line starts today!
That’s right. We’ve added the alternatives, trade offs and designs, and the questionnaire (among other items) to the Surrey Rapid Transit Line Phase 2 page. There’s a lot of information to digest, so you’ll want to take your time.

I think that BRT1 is same or better than every thing that LRT 1 offers. The financial, operating costs are lower than LRT1, and BRT1 travel times are identical. I’m surprised that there isn’t an option with RRT to langley, and LRT or BRT to newton/WR. Maybe it could be done in stages, but I still think that RRT to langley should be the way to go.
I think the most disappointing element of the proposed plans is that there isn’t the explicit mention of combination options for Surrey, similar to what was done for the Broadway Corridor. While its obvious that many of the LRT and RRT options could work together or at the very least don’t exclude the possibility of the other options, Translink would probably win more support by putting together a comprehensive rapid transit plan for the region and then allowing the region’s municipalities to prioritize the individual lines.
Jack Hope it’s probably because LRT + Skytrain would be prohibitively expensive, which is why the choices are pretty much BRT, LRT + BRT, Skytrain or Skytrain + BRT.

For one project, you’re probably right. My issue here is that Translink should be looking at an overall South of Fraser rapid transit plan and then prioritizing projects from that. The current discussion is presenting either/or options when perhaps we should be talking about what the phase 1 project should be. We don’t even need to specify the technology, just that these are the routes that will have future rapid transit.
It seems to me that we’re missing the forest for the trees here and that the network context would improve the quality of this discussion.
