Canada celebrates its 151st birthday on July 1!

No Canada Day plans? No problem! The Buzzer blog‘s got you covered with 9 epic things to do on Canada Day. There’s something happening in communities throughout Metro Vancouver. Perhaps the best part is they’re all transit accessible!

So, dust off your Canada gear, and wear it loud and wear it proud on Canada Day! Hashtag your adventures with the hashtag #MyTransLink—we’d love to see them.

Holiday service

Canada Day – SkyTrain and bus will operate Sunday/holiday schedules with modified, extended and increased service, so everyone can celebrate Canada Day! SeaBus will provide extra and extended service.

July 2 – SkyTrain, SeaBus and bus will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule, and the West Coast Express will not operate.

1. Surrey Canada Day

Location: Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre, 17728 64 Ave, Surrey, BC V3S 1W8
Hours:
 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Fireworks: 10:30 p.m.
Transit: 320

Canadian singer-songwriters Serena Ryder and Brett Kissel co-headline the City of Surrey’s annual Canada Day celebration. There will also be an amusement park, midway games and interactive activities for all ages! TransLink will be there with the community engagement bus until 10 p.m.

Take the 320 from Surrey Central Station to get there and we’ll be operating 12 shuttle buses post-event to get everyone home.

2. Canada Day at Canada Place

Location: Canada Place (and surrounding city streets), 999 Canada Pl, Vancouver, BC V6C 3T4
Hours:
 10 a.m. to 10:50 p.m.
Fireworks: 10:30 p.m.
Transit: Expo Line or the Canada Line to Waterfront Station

An oldie but goodie! For more than 30 years, Metro Vancouverites have descended on Canada Place each year to celebrate Canada Day. This celebration is the largest outside our nation’s capital!

Best viewing locations for the fireworks include: Fireworks Viewing Zone at Canada Place, Harbour Green Park, Coal Harbour, Stanley Park at the 9 o’clock gun, Crab Park and the West Vancouver Seawall between Ambleside and Dundarave.

Transit Police will be sharing updates from the festivities in downtown Vancouver. Make sure you give them a follow on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook!

3. Richmond Canada Day in Steveston

Location: Steveston Village, 12740 Trites Rd, Richmond, BC V7E 3R8
Hours:
 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Fireworks: 10:15 p.m.
Transit: 401, 402, 407, 410 and C93

Richmond’s Canada Day celebration is in partnership with the Steveston Salmon Festival, Canada’s biggest little birthday party! There will be an amazing musical lineup, a hockey zone, fireworks and so much more. Make sure you check out the Steveston Interurban Tram while you’re there.

TransLink will be operating 10 shuttles (three in the morning, three in the afternoon and four in the evening) that will run from Richmond–Brighouse Station’s Bay 4A. Look for “Special” on the destination sign! The shuttle will operate from No. 3 Road and Saba Road to Lord Byng Elementary at 3711 Georgia Street in Steveston and back again to Bay 2 at Richmond–Brighouse Station.

4. Canada Day in North Vancouver

Location: 13th Street from Grand Boulevard before heading down 17th Street via Lonsdale Avenue to Mahon Park (parade) and Waterfront Park
Hours:
 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (parade) and noon to 4 p.m. (Waterfront Park)
Fireworks: Beginning 10:30 p.m., watch the Canada Day at Canada Place fireworks from Waterfront Park
Transit: SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay, 229, 239, 242, 228, 229, 230, 236, 246, 231

While there’s no Canada Day parade in downtown Vancouver this year, the North Vancouver parade is still going strong! After parade, head over to Waterfront Park for an afternoon of amazing food, local performances and displays from North Shore community members.

5. New Westminster Queen’s Park

Location: Queen’s Park, First Street & Third Avenue, New Westminster, BC V3L 2G5; and New Westminster Quay, 810 Quayside Dr, New Westminster, BC V3M 6B9
Hours:
11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Queens Park and noon to 11 p.m. at New Westminster Quay
Fireworks: 10 p.m. at New Westminster Quay
Transit: 155 and C4 (Queen’s Park); and 123, C4 and Expo Line to New Westminster Station (New Westminster Quay)

There’s two locations for New Westminster’s Canada Day celebrations! It’s fun for the whole family at Queen’s Park with crafts, games, entertainment, a spray park and a petting farm. The New Westminster Quay will have musical entertainment and vendors will take over the upper floor of the River Market until 8 p.m. Fireworks light up the New Westminster waterfront at 10 p.m.

6. Golden Spike Days Festival

Location: Rocky Point Park, 2800 Murray St, Port Moody, BC V3H 1X2
Hours:
 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Fireworks: None
Transit: Millennium Line to Moody Centre Station, 160, 180, 181, 183 and 184

Port Moody’s Canada Day celebrations are part of the annual Golden Spike Days, which takes place June 29 to July 2. It’s one of the oldest and longest-running family events in B.C. There will be food, live entertainment, activities for all ages, and a talent competition called Tri-Cities Got Talent!

7. Canada Day at Town Centre Park (Lafarge Lake)

Location: Town Centre Park, 1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7S4
Hours:
 noon to 10:30 p.m.
Fireworks: 10 p.m.
Transit: Millennium Line to Lafarge Lake–Douglas Station, 160, 183, 186, 188 and 191

This is the largest Canada Day event in the Tri-Cities! It is known for its wide range of diverse live entertainment, delicious ethnic and regional food, and multi-cultural activities. Fireworks conclude the festivities at 10 p.m.

8. Canada Day Celebrations in Burnaby

Location: Edmonds Plaza & Park, Burnaby Village Museum and Swangard Stadium
Hours:
 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Edmonds Plaza & Park), 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Burnaby Village Museum), and 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (Swangard Stadium)
Fireworks: Dusk at Swangard Stadium
Transit: 106 (Edmonds Plaza & Park); 123, 133 and 144 (Burnaby Village Museum); and Expo Line to Patterson Station, 19, 27 and 112 (Swangard Stadium)

Canada Day celebrations in Burnaby take place throughout the day at three locations: Edmonds Plaza & Park, Burnaby Village Museum and Swangard Stadium. Activities for the whole family run the gambit—from multicultural entertainment and face painting, to a parade and loonie swim inside Edmonds Community Centre!

9. Canada Day at the Peak of Vancouver

Location: Grouse Mountain, 6400 Nancy Greene Way, North Vancouver, BC V7R 4K9
Hours:
 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Fireworks: None
Transit: 236

Grouse Mountain has myriad activities on Canada Day, including (but not limited to!) yoga, an outdoor concert featuring Emily Chambers and the Alex Flock Trio, a pop-up Canada shop, their world-famous lumberjack show and so much more. Check out their website for all details! Note that you’ll have to pay for a lift ticket to access the mountain.
