I Love Transit 2018: Submit an item for a time capsule!

Premier Bill Bennett seals commemorative time capsule at New Westminster Station in 1985.

We’re fast approaching TransLink’s 20th anniversary year in 2019 and we’re looking to do something fun to commemorate and mark this occasion — a time capsule!

What is it? Well, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, it’s “a container holding historical records or objects representative of current culture that is deposited (as in a cornerstone) for preservation until discovery by some future age.”

We’re looking for items that best represents TransLink’s first 20 years to seal away in this time capsule to be opened in the future.

Here’s some ideas for what we’re looking for: system maps, transfers, issues of The Buzzer from 1999, brochures, VHS tapes, t-shirts, uniforms, guidebooks and anything else you that tells future humans (or robots) about transit in Metro Vancouver.

Have something you’d like us to consider for the time capsule? Send us an email at thebuzzer@translink.ca with a photo and description of the item.

As far as we know, there’s only one time capsule on transit in existence. It’s at New Westminster Station, which was the original terminus of the Expo Line when it opened in 1985. The capsule will be opened in 2085 — a hundred years after SkyTrain opened.
