We’re creating a new Regional Transportation Strategy, called Transport 2050, that will outline our options for getting around between now and 2050.

Since TransLink launched this public engagement initiative – the largest in our history – on May 3, we’ve heard from thousands of Metro Vancouverites about what they want in the future of transportation. And so far, nearly 13,000 surveys and 1,400 ideas for the future have been submitted.

Ideas | 1364 creative ideas for the future

Hundreds of Metro Vancouverites have shared more than one thousand ideas for improving transportation in the region between now and 2050.

What have we heard lately? New ideas submitted over the past month that have prompted the most votes and online conversations are:

• Boost the buses: Put a B-line route between Brentwood and Metrotown, and a bus route between Squamish and Park Royal.
• Bring on bus improvements: create schedules that reflect dynamic road travel times, give Frequent Transit Network bus stop signage its own colour, indicating travel time to next station.
• All railed up: Double-track the Canada Line to Brighouse Station, avoid building light rail transit.
• Ideas – all day, every day: keep the Transport 2050 Ideas Board up permanently!
• Fare idea: Upgrade fare boxes throughout the transit system and conduct more fare enforcement.
• Avoid ride-hailing & driverless cars… or we could see more driving and congestion on the horizon.
• SkyTrain? ArtTrain: more buskers and live music at stations and put art on SkyTrain pillars.
• Easy access stations: more ramps/elevators for bikes/wheelchairs/scooters and facilitate better crowd control during peak periods.
• En-route improvements: remove face-to-face seating and provide one SkyTrain car for bikes.

Once Phase 1 engagement wraps up, we’ll publish an engagement report, summarizing what we’ve heard, and in 2020 we’ll evaluate ideas and group them into packages, which we’ll ask the region to help us consider.
