New Bike Parkades open in Coquitlam and Richmond

New Bike Parkades open in Coquitlam and Richmond

New Bike Parkades are now open at Burquitlam, Lafarge Lake–Douglas and Bridgeport stations! We’re expanding our Bike Parkade program to new parts of the region, making it an easier for even more people to bike to transit.

You may know us for our bus, SkyTrain, SeaBus, West Coast Express and HandyDART service, but we’re more than just transit. We’re here to support you whether you’re taking transit, walking, cycling or even driving.

On a typical day prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were 128,000 bike trips happening across the region. Why are there so many people cycling? Glad you asked!

Not only is cycling a healthy and pollution-free way to get around, it’s also fast! You can travel five times further on bike for the same amount of time and energy expended as walking. Try this tool to see how far you can travel by bike in five minutes!

For most trips under 5 kilometres, which account for 50 per cent of car trips in Metro Vancouver, a bicycle is faster in urban settings.

When you combine cycling with transit, you can travel even faster and further. That’s why we have Bike Parkades at transit hubs throughout the region, allowing you to easily connect to the SkyTrain, West Coast Express, RapidBus and other express bus routes.

Please keep in mind we’re asking all of our customers to use transit for essential trips only – especially at peak hours and busy times – so space remains available for those who need it most.

Bike Parkades are convenient, easy-to-use bicycle day storage facilities. They’re accessible 24/7, fully lit for visibility inside and out, and equipped with video surveillance for your peace of mind.

You can already find them in Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey and Port Coquitlam. Now we’re excited to announce we’ve expanded to new parts of the region, Coquitlam and Richmond, making it easier for more people to cycle and then connect to transit.

Three new Bike Parkades are now open at Bridgeport Station in Richmond, and Lafarge Lake–Douglas and Burquitlam stations in Coquitlam. A fourth is slated to open in the coming months at Maple Meadows Station, serving the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows communities.

Not only can you store your bike for the day, these new Bike Parkades — including the Port Coquitlam Station location — all feature a repair stand for tune-ups on the go, air pumps to get your tires road-ready, and oversize parking stalls for cargo bikes, bikes with trailers and recumbent bikes.

Exclusive access! Only customers who register for the Bike Parkade program can enter the facility.

To get started, just register your Compass Card online at compasscard.ca to unlock exclusive parkade access and you’re ready to roll. Tap into the parkade with your Compass Card, lock your bike to the rack and you’ll be on transit in no time.

Bike Parkades only cost $1 per day to use, capped at $8 a month. The more you use it, the better the value. Only customers who register for the Bike Parkade program can enter the facility.

If you prefer to cycle the entire way, you can too.

Across Metro Vancouver, there are 4,600 kilometres in total length of bikeways and 60 per cent of residents live near a bikeway that is considered comfortable for most people, so there’s one near you!

Last year, TransLink invested approximately $15 million to build new or improve existing Metro Vancouver cycle paths.

Your options include:

  • The BC Parkway – A 26-kilometre, multi-use path that roughly parallels the SkyTrain’s Expo Line, connecting Surrey, New Westminster, Burnaby and Vancouver.
  • The Central Valley Greenway – A 24-kilometre, multi-use path that roughly parallels the SkyTrain’s Millennium Line, connecting Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster.
  • Canada Line Pedestrian-Bicycling Bridge – The important link across the Fraser River, connecting the cycling routes of Richmond and Vancouver.

Before you start pedaling, plan your trip by exploring our online regional cycling maps on the TransLink’s website. Our partner HUB Cycling also has myriad resources on their website, including best practices for route planning and maps for each municipality.
