Things to do on Bowen Island this summer with the new Transit On-Demand App

Looking for something to do this summer for an adventure close to nature and away from the city? Have you tried out our new Transit On-Demand app for a day out on Bowen Island? TransLink has launched a new pilot program that will test on-demand transit services for Bowen Island residents and visitors.

To summarize the program, with more details can be found here, it gives Bowen Island transit customers and tourists the freedom to explore the area and hail for a public transit ride when you need it. It’s just as simple as visiting translink.ca/bowen to download the TapRide app. There’s also an option to use the online and phone-in booking system instead (more info on that via translink.ca/bowen).

This pilot project will run until this September 15, so we’re providing our recommendations as a head start of your Bowen Island adventures!

Speaking of food, there are plenty of specialty coffee shops and restaurants with tasty offerings throughout the island. You might find a hidden gem that keeps you coming back for more! Let us know your favourite fish-and-chip spot in the comments below.

Sea Kayaking

Kayaking the coastal waters of BC is the best way to cool down in hot weather. Paddle by the coast and watch the view of the aquatic ecosystem, or you can people watch the visitors off-boarding the ferry. Either way, you are moving at your own pace. (Please note, a guide to participant ratio of 1:6 is always needed to provide safety for everyone.) You can register for some sessions here.

Golfing

There’s a nine-hole golf course on Bowen Island with awesome views of Howe Sound! A great place to spend times with friends and family as social centre too! Plan your family gathering and social events with information that you can find on this site.

Plan your own adventure!

If you know what you like, there are definitely plenty of places for you to explore and build experiences with friends and family throughout the day. Let us know your how you’ll like to spend a day at Bowen Island and how you’ll use the Transit-on-Demand app on your next adventure!
