Langara ads tout their transit connections: cool!
Langara ads tout their transit connections: cool!
You might have seen these ads around town: it’s a new campaign from Langara College, which focuses on their connection to transit. (They’re on a Canada Line stop: Langara-49th!)
As we all know, transit connections can bring great value to the destinations they serve. So when a transit connection means so much that someone plasters it all over town… well, let’s just say we’re pretty pleased. Langara, we’re glad you’re so excited about the new stop!
Also, in light of this campaign, somebody in our planning department also sent me a snapshot of a similar ad in Portland, Oregon.
Here it is at right – click it for a larger version!
The ad is for the Bridgeport Brew Pub on the Portland streetcar line, and I love how they’ve integrated the whole line into the story… yes, the final destination of “Beervana” is indeed the Brew Pub itself.
So, hats off to TriMet in Portland, too — job well done in providing great transit connections, everyone :)
I don’t have a shot of it handy, but Memorial University has a similar ad campaign on subway cars in Toronto. Who knew that you could take the TTC to Newfoundland Studies?
Nice. I love how the Beck diagram is used so much in transit. I really hope Translink can get a good graphic designer to come up with a good Beck diagram for Vancovuer.
I have taken Portland’s streetcar to Bridgeport, and both are definitely recommended! Portland is a lovely place and Trimet is a great system. And their LRT can take you from Downtown Portland to the airport for a 3-zone fare (no separate addfare business here!).
Can you confirm if that ad forms part of a streetcar shelter?
I hope that translink will put an articulated bus on 49th you gotta wait for 5 buses to pass during school session in both directions. They could use the B-line buses that the Canada line will replace right?
Oh I so agree with you on that one! Before 9am, that frequency needs to be tripled with UBC, Langara, high school students and now the upcoming Canada Line will be pure mayhem West of Elliot in the mornings. Waiting 5 buses is not fun on hot summers and cold winters.
I’m sure the bus planners are aware of the situation. Fall bus service changes arrive Sept 7, so we’ll find out exactly what’s in store around then!
Btw Eric: We are 99% sure that the ad is from a streetcar shelter :)
Thanks for showcasing our ads on the Buzzer! We’re really happy to be on the Canada Line…can’t wait!
