The old elevator in Broadway Station is gone!
July 28, 2009
Just a post to point out the old elevator in Broadway Station is gone! It’s crazy how spacious it feels there now. (Here’s what it used to look like.)
If you hadn’t heard, the elevator was removed because we’re upgrading Broadway Station to better handle customer traffic and security. A new elevator will be installed at the other end of the platform by fall—in the meantime, you can use the Commercial Station elevator to get up to the Broadway platform.
Anyway, I’m told another official update on the Broadway Station upgrades will be coming soon, so I’ll have more detail then on how everything is progressing. And here’s the past posts about the upgrade if you want more info:
That is a million times better!! yay improvements!
I second the yay! This will make a huge difference to the efficiency of pedestrian-flow there. Btw, does anyone have a picture of the street level entrance without the elevator column?
Yes, it is great news, for the 2nd day in a row I didn’t get hit by running passengers desperate to get on a train that is already leaving the platform!
Reva: I went and took a photo of the street-level this morning. Here’s the photo: it looks like the elevator hasn’t been completely removed there yet.
And here’s another picture of the platform level, this time without all the construction stuff!
@ Jhenifer: Wow! Even with all the construction junk there, I can see how much roomier it’s going to be! The positioning of that elevator has bugged me for YEARS. Thank you Translink for finally sending it to a better place, as it were. :)
Seriously, trying to get into BW Station from that entrance at 8:00am on a weekday, when 2 or 3 #20s and a bunch of #9s and #99s all dump hundreds of passengers there at once, I cannot tell you how many times I have been shoved against that elevator column by crowds trying to funnel in through the limited space around it. I haven’t had to commute via BW for a couple years now, but I am very happy to see this improvement made nonetheless, as I’m sure do thousands of other commuters!
Yay — I’m glad you’re glad :)
At the platform level, the traffic flows so smoothly now — it almost feels like the elevator was never there!
Yah! Finally that old piece of junk elevator is gone! No more getting trampled by a stampede
of passengers trying to get on the train. Thanks SkyTrain for providing us the passengers with more platform space. I’m disabled and in a wheelchair and I like the extra space! Where that elevator was; it was a safety hazard; so I’m you guys took it out!
