Bus stop changes coming to Cambie and 41st on Mon, Nov 30
November 25, 2009
Riders of the 41 and 43, take note! Due to customer demand, these routes will switch their bus stops at Cambie and 41st Avenue in Vancouver, starting next Monday, November 30.
The diagram above shows how the stops will be switched. Basically, the 41 will stop where the 43 currently stops, and vice versa. Click the picture to see a much bigger version.
These changes are being made to move the 41 stops closer to the train station, since the 41 is capturing the majority of the customers throughout the day. There you have it!
This seems to make sense, I mainly use the 43 as its less stressful than the 41. Would seem to be more room for the 43 on the west bound service at the other stop. Will the online schedules at m.translink.ca be updated at the same time?
The mobile site should be updated, since it derives its data from our main database, and that will be updated for the change on Monday.
The change will reduce walking distance for the many seniors in the Oakridge area. Bravo!
Considering that the 43 has about 42 service hours a week and the 41 has about 140, this is a pretty obvious move.
Plus the shelters are more needed off-peak because there’s a longer wait for the bus.
Ah yes — well, as you might certainly know, shelters are the responsibility of the municipalities, so you have to contact the City of Vancouver to have more of them put in that area. I think we pass along your suggestions to them too.
Hahaha, I had a feeling this was going to happen. Passengers often don’t read the bus stop destination pole and immediately think the bus shelter is where the bus’ll stop. People boarding there once got angry at the bus driver (operating the #41) for not stopping where they were standing (#43 bus stop).
Thank heavens! Hopefully this will stop people from running across the middle of 41st through traffic. I’m sure someone is going to get hurt there.
Can you tell me why they got rid of the stops on the west side of Cambie?
It seems that, since there were bus stops there not too long ago, they could put them back without too much hassle and have the 43 stop on the nearsides as it always has, and have the 41s stop on the farsides.
Mike: here’s the answer from CMBC planning.
Thank you so much to whomever for reversing those stops. As a #15 driver I am always afraid for my passengers crossing a very busy and sometimes dark Cambie street. As the 43 is only a peak hour route this reversal makes for a safer transfer point.Though I do wish that the East bound far side 41st stop by the CIBC bank could be re-instated as Cambie is such a wide roadway to cross especially for the Elderly and Disabled and connections are often missed.I suppose the City of Vancouver could address this issue as well.
According to your blog entry the bus stops were supposed to be switching on the 30 November, however, there is some mis-communication at Translink about this date.
This evening, for myself and my partner (different times in the evening) the buses were already going to their new stops!! The 43 went to the current 41 stop and 41 to the current 43 stop. There were even signs half way down the post to confirm this new arrangement wouldn’t start until Nov 30.
Commuters had to run to the other stop to catch their bus, I walked briskly to get the 43 at the new stop but the driver just flew off!!
So, what can we expect this weekend? Will they depart from their new or old stops?
Steve, I hope they get their act together, but since the 43 doesn’t run on weekends, I expect it won’t be so bad!
Finally, it’s about time. I drive the #43 and I can never pull my bus in at the stop Eastbound if a #41 was parked at their stop. Although i only stop at the farside, I wish they would get rid of the stop farside or nearside at 41st and Victoria. Don’t see the point of both. Confuses passengers who think i’m suppose to stop nearside.
Steve: I’m sorry that happened! Nov 30 was definitely the new start date, so I’m not sure why those drivers didn’t notice it. Hope it hasn’t continued to inconvenience you :(
At the beginning of the week there was confusion with other passengers, they didn’t know of the change, and there were no signs at the bus stop to advise them of such. Signs were there last week but not there from Monday. I think people are now getting used to it!
I was looking for the 41 Eastbound last night 50136 on the mobile site…. the site shows no service for 43. Is that what were planning for updating?
;-)
I’ve forwarded this to our mobile developers. Hope an answer is forthcoming…
