Hey yo: we’re calling all buskers for a special open audition on Thursday, January 14!

We’re looking to bring more performers into TransLink’s existing Musician Program, to supplement the program before and during the Olympics. Hopefully, talented musicians from our region can help liven up the Olympic period when customers may be waiting for transit!

The details of the auditions:

Thursday, January 14, 2010
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
TransLink head office
(4th Floor Metrotower II, 4720 Kingsway, Burnaby)
Cost: free!

Successful candidates will be offered a license to perform at select stations, located primarily in the downtown core, from February 1 to March 31.

Many more details on the whole audition process can be found in the audition press release. There’s also a bit of info discussing a new pilot project for the musician program that will be developed in the next three months. Enjoy!

Love the buskers at that location. The violinist pictured even picks up the pace when people run for the seabus ! I hope he and that amazing classical guitarist show up for the audition.

There is an unofficial busker who occasionally sits on Granville street near the seabus terminal side, near the subway sandwich place, who is an absolutely amazing guitar player and singer. He usually does classical rock songs. He is an older gentleman that I believe is homeless. Boggles my mind when I hear him. Its unfortunate someone like him will not be aware of the audition.

You know, I think that violinist and the guitarist already have busker licenses :)

Also, if you do see the fellow you described around, perhaps you could let him know that the auditions are happening? The more the merrier!

Waiting with bated breath to hear the outcomes of the SOCAN negotiations…glad you are still holding auditions in the meantime.

That guitarist you are talking about is Andre the Gypsy. I’ll mention it to him the next time I see him.
