I also visited Broadway-City Hall this afternoon to see how things were going. Sandra, one of the transit hosts, was on duty during the incredibly busy Sunday, and said the lineup snaked all the way around the station and up the block toward City Hall! Everyone was apparently headed to downtown Vancouver though — the line heading toward Richmond-Brighouse was very short.

In other news, Sandra said that one of the main questions here from visitors is “How do I get to UBC Thunderbird Arena?” The answer that locals will immediately know is “Take the westbound 99 across the street” — but a few excited visitors have bolted right out of the station and on board the eastbound 99, which picks up right in front of the station entrance. (I’m not even sure more signage would help here: a determined visitor often just sees the number 99 and makes a run for it!)

Anyway, I think Sandra’s developing a sixth sense for steering these people straight. While we were just talking, she quickly called out and guided a couple headed to the wrong 99 toward the correct stop :)

As well, here’s a photo of fellow transit host Marco aiding a customer!
