Last day to vote on the smartcard name, Friday January 28, 2011
January 28, 2011
Reminder: today, Friday, January 28, 2011, is your last day to vote on the smartcard name! The contest closes at midnight tonight.
If you haven’t voted yet, do it here: translink.ca/contest
The three names in the running again are Compass, Starfish, and Tpass.

Inviting the public to suggest names was a great idea. From there it went downhill, making the decision makers look indecisive and underqualified. I’m not voting because none if the options included is one I would use – not only would I not pick any of them if it were up to me, but whichever is selected I simply won’t use the name. I hope the branding and marketing won’t be so pervasive that it puts me off of using or recommending the card altogether. Of the previous batch, I would have voted for Otter.
I hope you will write in this blog to compare the participation levels of the names suggestions and the voting.

Thanks for the feedback, mika. I’ll definitely pass it along to the project team.
I agree, where were the previous entries?
Donald: I’ve answered this in another thread, so apologies for copying and pasting — but as far as I understand it, a research process was undertaken to identify the final candidates for the smart card name. Those first four names then emerged into public view after being run through our market research panel, TransLink Listens, at the start of the research process. However, after further market research, the project team ultimately decided on the current three names as finalists for the public vote.
Has anyone mentioned that San Diego, CA’s smart card is also called Compass? May Vancouver maintain its originality.
