Here’s a gem of a 1976 Montreal Métro video that’s been making the rounds on the Internet of late. Thanks Translinked.com.
- Here’s a bus that looks like it costs a lot less than the real thing. It’s amazing what can be done with some cardboard and some ingenuity!
- The Province of Quebec will be footing the cost of one month’s worth of a year pass if Montrealers buy an annual pass before early October as part of an effort to reduce congestion in Montreal.
- More cuts to the TTC may be coming.
- BC Transit and partners are trying to mitigate cuts to interior BC transit.
- The NDP announce a National Public Transit Strategy Act. The idea is to provide permanent national funding for transit.
- Some Americans oppose proposed cuts to public transit.
- Another gem from Translinked.com here. If you haven’t watched Boardwalk Empire, then you really should. It’s very entertaining. To announce the launch of the next season, which starts September 25th, a 1917 train operated by the Interborough Rapid Transit system has been updated with show propaganda (see post).
- A nice video of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of SkyTrain. This includes some of the video we made for the event.
- The City of Surrey has posted their own vision for the future of transit. Check out all the options for Surrey Rapid Transit, and see what you like best!
- If you’re a fan of SkyTrain technology, take a look at what people are riding in Wuppertal, Germany!
- When you’re trying to make a connection between buses and wanting to catch the right SkyTrain, SeaBus or West Coast Express, do you ever feel like you’re in a video game trying to get to the next level? Well, this creative map maker mashes transit with gaming by making a Super Mario Bros 3 style SkyTrain map!
- Have you ever been to Paris before? If you have, you’ll have noticed that not only do people have a lot of little dogs (yes, even more than you’ll find in Vancouver’s Yaletown), they are on average quite thin. Why is that? As this video elegantly illustrates, perhaps it’s because so many people use transit.
- The wearing of a burka is banned in public in the Netherlands including public transit.
- Musician sings about public transit in the Portland tram!
- Here’s something I’d never thought of before. What if schools worked with transit authorities to stagger start and finish times so that the transit system isn’t overloaded?
- A sweet video of a parent taking his kids on the SeaBus.
Centennial Secondary in Coquitlam used staggered schedules for this reason among others. It didn’t seem to help much mind you, as half of 2000+ students is still over 1000 students getting out at the same time and trying to board one of five routes!
