Yesterday, I moderated a video and phone briefing with TransLink CEO, Ian Jarvis; TransLink’s Director-Service & Infrastructure Planning, Brian Mills; media and Buzzer blog readers (invited via the comments section for last week’s blog post on these issue).
The briefing touched on a variety of topics including TransLink’s response to the Commissioner’s recommendations from his review and from the recent decision by the Mayors’ Council to eliminate reliance on property tax to fulfill the Moving Forward Plan. Take a look. It speaks for itself!
I might watch if it wasn’t one 45 min long video – please chop it up into three or four videos.
Say, you know those West Coast Express Trainbuses that now sit there and collect dust during the weekends? How about you guys use those and start a weekend Trainbus service from Vancouver to Whistler during the winter? I have a feeling a lot of tourist without cars come here just to experience the British Columbian powder.
Great video. I’m proud to live in a region served by this executive team under the current situation. Hopefully hard times will breed innovation.
No one mentioned an express bus route from White Rock Centre to 22nd Street SkyTrain Station via Hwy. 91. They did that many years ago, but discontinued because of low riderships, but I think it should restart that route, because more & more people are getting on to SkyTrain to downtown Vancouver.
@Kelly:
There is already an express bus (351) that goes from white rock centre to bridgeport station via Hwy 99 that takes people to the skytrain that goes downtown. What’s the need to have 2 different routes when the 351 would be faster than a bus that goes to 22nd station?

Also, it would be nice to have a text summary of what he said. You couldn’t pay me to watch a 45min video…
@Taylor: I know the 351 bus goes to the Canada Line. Not the Expo Line from White Rock. I know there is another express bus from White Rock to King George, but going from South Surrey P&R to 22nd St. Stn. takes at least 20 mns to get there rather than going to Bridgeport, where it’s about at least 30 mns. from P&R. Also there maybe some people who would like to be dropped off @ Annacis Island interchange for working over there.
Translink the Sacrificial lamb.
Not an hyperbole, rather, an understatement.
The mayors, commissioner, government, all say that translink is a ‘well run organization’, and what does translink get? No money and an audit.
If there’s one thing that I don’t like from the translink, (and maybe the only thing), it’s the secrets and politician weasel answers that the translink execs are bound to give. Translink, a well run and efficient organization, doesn’t need to give indirect nonsense hockey players answers.
[…] a lot of great conversation going on concerning funding, so I hope to follow up on that topic (and others of course) when I […]
Chocodum: TransLink only has jurisdiction in Metro Vancouver. However, wouldn’t it be great to have another way to Whistler!
JKKT: Thanks for the comment. If you have a direct question for TransLink executives, I can certainly pass it onto them to answer.
