Remembrance Day 2012 holiday service and parade reroutes
Remembrance Day 2012 holiday service and parade reroutes
Remembrance Day is Sunday, November 11th. Except for some bus routes, this year, transit service will run like any other Sunday of the year.
Veterans ride free on Nov. 11
This applies to Ordinary and Life Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans and the Korean Veterans Association. Veterans just have to show their membership card to receive free transportation. Free service does not apply to associate members of these organizations.
Free transit service also extends to members of the current armed services including: police (including auxiliaries), firefighters, the Coast Guard, BC Ambulance Paramedics and Department of Fisheries and Oceans Officers. They may ride free in uniform or by presenting their badge.
That means that all transit will run on Sunday/holiday service; however, the West Coast Express and train buses won’t be running.
A moment of silence at 11am
All TransLink services including: Coast Mountain buses, West Vancouver Blue Bus, SkyTrain, SeaBus, and Community Shuttles will observe a period of silence at the stop they reach closest to at 11am on Remembrance Day.
Riding with a group is cheaper
On Remembrance Day, like on any Sunday or holiday, you can use your FareCard to take one more adult and up to four children with you. The offer applies to Adult FareCards, West Coast Express 28-day Passes or Annual Employer Transit Passes. Please note that this does not apply to Concession Passes.
Remembrance Day Parade reroutes – Sunday, November 11
There are a number of Remembrance Day parades around Metro Vancouver. This means that some buses will be rerouted on Sunday, November 11. For a complete list of reroutes please check the Alerts and Advisories page.
Transit service on Monday, November 12
On Monday, bus, SkyTrain and SeaBus services will run their regular schedules, but since it is a holiday for many, rush-hour service levels will be reduced. Weekday fares will apply and West Coast Express trains and TrainBus service will not operate.
Again, for specific info on reroutes, check out the Alerts page on the main TransLink site or call Customer Information at 604-953-3333.
Why did weekday fares apply on November 12, 2012 this year? Not only was November 12th a statutory holiday (Remembrance Day) in all of BC, but, as you admitted, transit service levels were reduced. My kids were off school and my wife wanted to take them on a 2 zone trip but could not on her one zone monthly pass, even though it was a holiday. Please explain.
Hi Aren: I’ve asked and sadly it appears that
SaturdaySunday November 11 is considered the statutory holiday day in BC (here’s the BC Government’s labour website for reference). As such, Monday was considered a regular day of service and so regular fares apply. I’m very sorry about the confusion!
