Buzzer illustrator interview: Ben Frey

Buzzer illustrator interview: Ben Frey

Ben and his fantastic illustration!
Ben and his fantastic illustration!

Here’s a little light and fun Friday reading. As with most of our illustrators of the Buzzer newsletter, we had the opportunity to ask Ben Frey, illustrator of our May 10, 2013 issue, a few questions.

We really like Ben’s illustration. I don’t know where we can find this mountain of fun in Metro Vancouver, but I’d sure like to visit it! Here’s a short q and a with Mr. Frey.

Tell us about yourself and your art! What inspires you as an artist.

Well, I’ve been living in Vancouver for about 13 years and have been working in commercial art for most of that time. Since graduating I have been freelancing as an illustrator and also creating work for exhibitions. I love drawing over any other medium…most illustrators do! What inspires me most are other artists, with their creativity and output…and just livin’. There is so much inspiration that surrounds us.

Do you take transit? If so, what’s your preferred mode of transportation?
I take the bus sometimes, more often in the rainy season. But I mostly use my bike. The bike paths in Vancouver are very well planned and it’s so easy to get anywhere even if it’s all the way across town.

What can we expect from you in the future?
I’m publishing my brand new portfolio site at benfrey.ca with up to date work. At the end of the month, I’ll be showcasing work at Electric Umbrella Tattoos in Nanaimo.

Anything you’d like to add?
I have prints for sale and on display at Far Out Coffee Post at Dundas and Templeton. It’s along the #4 and #7 line.

Have you picked up the issue yet? Remember, you can always download it as a .pdf or pick it up on the bus, SkyTrain or SeaBus.
