SkyTrain Change is a comin’! Are you ready for October 22nd?
SkyTrain Change is a comin’! Are you ready for October 22nd?
Change can be hard, but the good news is, it doesn’t have to be! We’ve got everything you need to help you on your way on October 22nd, and beyond!
If you haven’t yet heard, on October 22nd, 2016 the way you ride SkyTrain may be changing. In advance of the Evergreen Extension opening later this year, the operating pattern of the SkyTrain network will be different than what you’ve become accustomed to. Arguably, the biggest change in the operating pattern will take place at Lougheed Town Centre Station and Production Way – University Station.
Is Lougheed Town Centre Station part of your commute? Our friends in wayfinding have created this visual to help you understand what to expect come October 22nd.
Are you a Production Way – University Station regular? Here’s how the upcoming October 22nd change may affect your SkyTrain commute.
Still have questions? Check out our Facebook Livestream with Ian Fisher, outlining all of the changes.
For more information on the operating pattern,

You can also check out our live streams on Facebook and Periscope!
And one more time — the key points of the change that may impact you are summarized below:
New operating pattern – October 22nd:
o The Expo Line will now have two branches.
- One route will continue to travel between Waterfront and King George stations.
- A second Expo Line route will run between Waterfront and Production Way–University stations.
o The Millennium Line will no longer travel to/from Waterfront Station. Instead, it will
now run between VCC–Clark and Lougheed Stations.
Transfer points:
You will be able to transfer between the Millennium and Expo lines at three places:
o Commercial–Broadway Station
o Lougheed Town Centre Station
o Production Way–University Station
Please note: You will no longer be able to transfer to or from the Millennium Line at Columbia Station or Waterfront Station.

Is it just me or are there two Platform 2’s at Production Way-University Station?
It’s not just you :)
Not only are there two Platform 2s, the description of the Expo Line trains is wrong too.
In the top reference, the wording should be “from Waterfront via Columbia, unloading only” instead of “to Waterfront . . .”
In the lower reference, the wording should be “to Waterfront via Columbia”, not “from Waterfront . . .”
Great catch you guys! We’ve updated the graphic to reflect the proper operating pattern!
Will google map be accommodated with these changes?
Will wayfinding be updated tomorrow to remove “Millennium Line” from all the stations from Waterfront to Braid?
I think it’s a great change and much better – I never liked the Millennium routing – it was confusing at best.
Hi David,
All of the signage has been updated to reflect the new station naming. Thanks for the feedback! :) ^sk
Is there going to be a crossover between tracks when the Evergreen Extension opens? Because I see here that the Northbound track at Lougheed Town Centre is for trains to Lafarge Lake-Douglas (Eastbound) but at Moody Centre, the Northbound platform is for Westbound trains.
@Drew. The cross-over is immediately west of Burquitlam station. There are others on the extension, but that is the one that will be used to route trains through Lougheed Town Centre so that westbound trains from Coquitlam will have a cross-platform interchange with trains going toward Braid.
You can technically get to Millenium from Columbia by hopping onto the expo to Lougheed or Production Way then transfer at eithet of those.
Yes, you bet you can! Customers can transfer from Expo to Millennium at either Production Way–University or Lougheed Station! ^sk
Way-finding and system maps.
It is a really bad idea to show the green outline on the Millennium extension to Coquitlam. The Evergreen is a hold over from when it was going to be a separate line. Now it is part of the Millennium Line, the green outline is just confusing and silly. Please, remove it from the maps – it’s the Millennium Line from end to end. Why make the network more confusing and harder to understand – shouldn’t the principle of way-finding and system maps be to make them as simple and as easy to read as possible.
This. A hundred times this. Wayfinding disaster in the making.
Is there a decided opening date for the Evergreen Line? The trains in the new Millennium Line route are already going to the Lafarge Lake terminus station. I take the 97 by City Hall so I see those empty trains every morning and evening; they arrive and leave that station approx every 5 mins.
Hi Susan,
We don’t have a confirmed opening date as of yet, however the province has promised that it will be before Christmas this year. You can see SkyTrains travelling the Evergreen Extension as they are currently in testing. Stay tuned for an announcement on when the Evergreen Extension will open! ^sk
I was surprised that there was no voice announcement eastbound at Production Way-University indicating whether the train is Millennium to Lougheed or Expo to Waterfront via Columbia. A visually impaired person entering the Skytrain system at Production Way-University and headed for New Westminster would want to board the Expo train there rather than transfer from a Millennium train at Lougheed where a change in platform via stairs is involved.
By this point, shouldn’t there be announcements on all trains indicating route/terminus? Any plans to implement?
Hi War on the Car,
You bet! There are currently announcements on all trains as well as on the platforms indicating which line, and terminus station the arriving SkyTrain is for. There are also electronic signs on all of the platforms indicating the same. Hope this helps! ^sk
Hi Robert,
I’ve just checked in with SkyTrain and they’ve confirmed that all onboard announcements are still playing, so it could have been an individual train issue as to why the announcement didn’t play when you were boarding. If you notice this again, could you fill out a feedback form at mfb.translink.ca so we can look into it for you? Thanks! ^sk
Hello again Robert,
Following up on Sarah’s comment, there was a glitch in the announcements that I’m told has now been fixed. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Because of your comment we have fixed an issue. You rock! Please let me know if you see anything else.
Thanks again!
