How TransLink and Mamas For Mamas keep families moving
TransLink takes you to the people and places that matter the most, and during a global pandemic when barriers to everyday essentials were stretched, the importance of access to economic, independent travel became even greater for so many Metro Vancouverites.
Mamas for Mamas is a national charitable organization that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis by providing ongoing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles. Their mission is to change the landscape of poverty through innovative approaches to financial barriers faced by struggling families.
Since 2020, TransLink has donated over $4,500 in Compass Cards and Tickets to Mamas for Mamas to help ensure that vulnerable parents within our region remain connected through transit.
We caught up with Casey and her sweet son, whose participation in the program has allowed her to keep the money in her pocket that she would have used to transit, for other things like groceries, but more importantly, maintains her independence and access to the places she needs to go.
