Former TransLink Vice-President named new SkyTrain President and General Manager

After a competitive search, British Columbia Rapid Transit Company’s (BCRTC) Board of Directors have appointed a new President and General Manager.

Sany Zein taps in as BCRTC President and General Manager on October 3, 2022, bringing with him over 30 years of experience in the transportation industry.

The accomplished transportation professional will be an exceptional addition to BCRTC and West Coast Express (WCE), as efforts continue to rebuild ridership and prepare to expand service across the region. He brings to the role extensive knowledge in rail industry topics such as customers’ evolving expectations, supply chain challenges, labour market dynamics, procurement and delivery models, asset management, system modernization and digitization, and ridership recovery.

Prior, Sany was Vice President, Transit and Transportation (Canada), with global consultancy firm Jacobs. In that role, he leads the development of strategic growth plans, gaining exposure to major rail initiatives across Canada including in Toronto, Calgary, and Edmonton.

Previously, Sany was a member of the TransLink team for over twelve years, serving as Vice President, Engineering, from 2016 to 2021. He oversaw the delivery of the annual capital program and the development of the strategic asset management program. He was a key leader in developing and delivering capital projects and programs including the Evergreen Extension, Broadway Subway, Surrey–Langley SkyTrain, Canada Line upgrades, SkyTrain fleet expansion, major station upgrades, and upgrades to rail maintenance and operations facilities. Sany’s deep Metro Vancouver roots provide him with a unique understanding of BCRTC’s and WCE’s integral role in the region and the passion inherent in the BCRTC and WCE teams.

In his new role, Sany will help prepare BCRTC for rail expansion while continuing to deliver reliable service for BCRTC and WCE customers and support for employees.
