What to do if you lose something on transit

What to do if you lose something on transit

Customer speaks to a Lost Property Clerk to retrieve lost items

If you’re reading this, you’ve likely left something behind during your commute and are praying to the transit gods that it’s found.

First off, take a deep breath! Our Lost Property office at Stadium–Chinatown Station processes tens of thousands of lost items each year! That means chances are if you’ve lost it, someone may have found it and it will soon be on its way back to you.

Next, fill out an online lost property form so our helpful staff will know what to look for and who to contact when it’s found.

Still on or near transit? A uniformed transit employee like a bus operator, SkyTrain Attendant, Transit Security or Transit Police officer can help. On the SkyTrain? Pick up the red emergency phone on the platform to connect with the SkyTrain Control Centre. You can also call the TransLink Customer Service at 604.953.3333.

Sometimes, lost items are reunited with their owners before they get to our Lost Property office. We know how important items such as wallets and keys are to our customers, so staff make every effort to track down these items right away.

And now you wait.

If that thing you’ve lost is a Compass Card, make sure to contact Compass Customer Service and let them know. If your Compass Card was registered, they can transfer any Stored Value or pass products onto a new Compass Card for you.

Once you receive the call that your lost property has been found, head down to Stadium–Chinatown Station to pick it up. Here are some things you’ll need to know to make getting your lost property back a seamless process.

Where is Lost Property?

The Lost Property office is located on the central concourse level at Stadium–Chinatown Station. The office is located behind the fare gates, closest to Beatty Street, where the large, white information boards are. Tap your Compass Card or contactless credit card at the fare gates and enter without charge if your visit is less than 20 minutes. Don’t have a Compass Card or contactless credit card? Pick up the phone at the information boards and a SkyTrain Attendant will come and assist you through the fare gates.

When is Lost Property open?

The Lost Property office is open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from noon – 4 p.m. Our friendly staff are on hand to help reunite you with your lost property.

How to I collect a bike?

If your lost property is a bike, contact the Lost Property Office in advance to arrange pick up.

What do I need to bring with me?

To collect your lost property, staff will need to verify your identity to make sure items are being returned to their rightful owners. Make sure to bring a piece of government issued identification with you to our office.
