Did you know you can travel five times further on bike for the same amount of time and energy expended as walking? For most trips under 5 kilometres, which account for 50 per cent of car trips in Metro Vancouver, a bicycle is faster in urban settings.

Especially with sunnier and warmer weather already here, it’s the perfect time to ditch the car and zip past traffic rather than be it!

Do we have you convinced and thinking of ditching four wheels for two? Spring Go by Bike Week is from May 29th to June 2nd and is the perfect time to bike. Since 2007, it has motivated over 130,000 participants to commute via bike, and we can see why!

Go by Bike Week, presented by HUB Cycling, is a week aimed at showcasing the resiliency of cycling as a mode of transportation. During the week-long event, participants are encouraged to get out and ride their bikes anywhere and everywhere.

How to take part in Go by Bike Week

Register online at bikehub.ca/gbbw. Make and log your cycling trips for a chance to win great prizes, track your kilometers, and see how many greenhouse gas emissions you’ve saved. This spring’s grand prize is a self-guided cycling adventure for two in Croatia!

Make sure to visit the celebration and community stations to receive free basic bike maintenance, cycling information, and resources for a safe and happy ride. Each station also offers snacks, morning coffee, and raffle prize giveaways including a prize bundle from TransLink! We’re also sponsoring four celebration stations across our cycling network, so be sure to drop by and enjoy some goodies at these locations and times:

  • Tuesday, May 30, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Burquitlam Station
  • Wednesday, May 31, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Lafarge Lake–Douglas Station
  • Friday, June 2, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Canada Line Bikeway and River Drive in Richmond
  • Thursday, June 1, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Renfrew Station

Don’t forget! When you combine cycling with transit, you can travel even faster and further. Metro Vancouver has facilities and infrastructure that make combining cycling with transit easy, safe, affordable, and convenient. Bikes are welcome onboard transit — including our buses, which are all equipped with bike racks.

Let’s ride!
