This Go by Bike Week, Sept. 27 to Oct. 3, cycling can become more than a commute. It can be a part of everyday routines!

Whether it’s a trip to the pharmacy, a class on campus, or a quick stop for takeout, every ride makes a difference.

By logging trips during the week, participants can see progress on the leaderboards, track greenhouse gas savings, and move Metro Vancouver towards a healthier and greener future.

Every destination counts

No trip is too small for biking.  Destinations that fit perfectly into a bike trip include:

  • Pharmacy visits
  • Grocery shopping
  • Attending classes in university
  • Coffee shop or takeout stops
  • Farmers markets
  • Local shops and small businesses

Each kilometre adds up, turning everyday errands into meaningful impact.

Short trips, big impact

In Metro Vancouver, many car trips cover just a few kilometres, which are distances that are ideal for biking! Replacing these drives avoids the most polluting type of trip, since vehicles are least efficient on short and cold starts.

Short rides also double as an easy way to build exercise into the day. Turning quick errands into opportunities to stay active while getting where you need to go.

Plan your route

Longer trips can also be made easier by pairing cycling with transit! Consider how often short errands happen in a week, and how many of them could be shifted to bike trips.

To make it even more exciting, design your own Go by Bike Week adventure using the online map. The tool highlights nearby businesses offering freebies or discounts, so every ride can come with a reward. Plus, the map also shows where Compass Card holders can access exclusive discounts, helping you plan routes that are both practical and enjoyable!

Riding together for change

Every logged trip contributes to a collective impact. As more riders participate, the total kilometers and greenhouse gases saved tell a powerful story about what’s possible when everyday routines shift toward sustainable choices.

Even on rainy days, every ride counts. Don’t be discouraged by a few puddles! Biking in the rain still can be enjoyable with the right gear and preparation.
