Friday fun post: The most beautiful bus stop around?
July 2, 2010
John, a colleague from CMBC, sent me this photo of a bus stop blooming with flowers in South Surrey, under the subject line, “The most beautiful bus stop?”
It turns out John’s neighbour Dean takes time to plant the flowers beside the bus stop every year—isn’t that lovely? Last year he planted red and white flowers for Canada Day!
Have you seen any nice bus stops around? Feel free to share in the comments! (Embedding images won’t work, but you can just throw down a raw URL to link to any photos :)

Gordon Price had a post last year on cool bus stops worldwide: http://pricetags.wordpress.com/2009/09/16/cool-watch-bus-stops/
These local ones are pretty nice too!

I don’t know if Translink has an archive…. Back in 1996, a lady named Celine Rich decorated 19 South Vancouver shelters to reflect the area. Sadly when City of Vancouver signed a new advertising contract to update old shelters, the Discovery Project shelters were destroyed….

Does anybody know how to link google street view images in the URL?
zack, do you mean like this:
http://maps.google.ca/?ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Vancouver,+Greater+Vancouver+Regional+District,+British+Columbia&t=h&layer=c&cbll=49.275046,-123.21216&panoid=DDQU2U_noDxuKjlbZ5Hnwg&cbp=12,3.99,,1,-0.86&ll=49.275085,-123.212314&spn=0,0.039525&z=15
I always liked the old terminus stop of the #42 Spanish Banks bus down at the beach concession stand… The view was unbelievable! Not sure if the Community Shuttle still serves that stop or not?
There are a couple of bus stops along North West Marine Drive-UBC that are in really great shape too…
@Sean: That stop is served by the C19: #61143, close to the one Sungsu linked to (#51938).
I nominate the stops at the SE corner of King Ed and Quesnel for the views of downtown: #51497 for EB 025 Brentwood and #50124 for SB 022 Macdonald.
@Sungsu. Yep! You hit the mark! Can you list some steps on how to do that? :)
Nicest subway station: Burrard. Walk up the steps west of the ticket machines…

It’s a Google Maps screenshot where I’m assuming the owner of one of the houses made a nice bench for waiting passengers. I’ve also seen the household incorporate the bus stop in their Halloween decorations each year! I saw a scarecrow one year hug the pole :P
zack,
In a regular browser, just above the street view image, at the right side, you should see three hyperlinks: Print, Send and Link. Click on Link and two options should present themselves. The first one, Paste link in email or IM, is the one you want.
This is basically the view from King Ed and Quesnel that Eric B. describes:

Sean and Eric B,
Here is the street view for Spanish Banks Loop. Looking very nice!

@Sungsu: COOL!! Thanks a lot for the tip! :)
Here’s a nice spot in West Vancouver along Marine dr.

For pure, natural beauty (and my personal favourite), it has to be the Stanley Park bus loop. You’re surrounded by a sea of green! And it’s such a relief stepping into a cool trolleybus after a hot day walking around!(I had issues putting the street view link in, but y’all can see it for yourselves if you search for Stanley Park Bus Loop Bay 1)
For the Stanley Park loop, the Google vehicle respected the restricted entry signs. For a taste of the ambiance, try this link and roam around:

Everyone: these are fantastic! I’ll have to do a follow up post showcasing them this week.
For anyone who rides through Annacis Island, the northbound stop off the hwy has to be one of the best – in terms of DIY bus stops. I’ll post a link to a photo tonight!
ericmk and Robert,
The last flickr link in my post above shows the Stanley Park loop.

Here’s the one I was talking about on Annacis Island!

(I’m still not sure why Delta hasn’t installed shelters there, but they probably have a good reason)
rbo: that’s awesome! Are those weatherproofed chairs or just weatherbeaten regular chairs?
Golf course, lake, mountain…
