Downtown Vancouver reroutes for Monday
January 9, 2009
Just a heads up about Monday, Jan. 12 reroutes owing to Canada Line construction in downtown Vancouver.
Bus service will be re-routed off Hastings between Richards and Howe Streets on Monday, Jan. 12 between 7am and 1pm (or otherwise required).
This temporary re-route affects the #10 Granville, #16 Arbutus, #135 Burrard Stn and #135 SFU (via off Hastings onto Richards, Pender and Howe); #160 Vancouver and #160 Port Coquitlam Stn (from Burrard Stn via Pender and Seymour to Hastings).
(NB: We can expect general traffic in the vicinity to be congested as a result of this lane closure on Hastings.)
You can get the full details of the reroute at the Customer Alerts page discussing this road closure.
With this detour and westbound lane closure at the Woodwards construction site you can expect westbound traffic to be backed up to at least Columbia Street!
Are buses ever going to run along downtown Granville Street again?
I too would like to see local services on Granville and keeping the suburban on Howe/Seymour. Then again there may not be much suburban with the Canada Line coming.
Have a look at http://vancouver.ca/commsvcs/currentplanning/granvilleredesign/index.htm.
I hope bus routes will generally use Granville, but reroute to Seymour/Howe during special events. Just like the days before the Canada Line construction.
What about the #490,491 & 496’s? What sort of re-route will they be on?
Daniel – yes, after Canada Line construction and the Granville redesign is complete, probably by November.
Sean – the closures affect eastbound travel only.
hi
i like the new things in buses saying which street is the next stop.
an idea to make the voice announcement less annoying is to just say the street, and not the suffix or whatever.
like say ‘alma’. instead of ‘alma street’
obviously we know we are on a street!
10th ave
12th ave
15th ave
just delete the ending and all people need is:
oak, cambie, granville, main!
let me know if a test bus could give it a try!
Dee: thanks for the suggestion, I’ll pass it on!
Don’t go to Honolulu. When I went to Waikiki, there would be a 10-30 second announcement at each bus stop for tourist attractions and hotels.
I guess the drivers got tired answering tourist’s same questions over and over again.
