Hey, the Buzzer is 93 today!
June 2, 2009
A big shout-out to everyone’s favourite transit newsletter today!
The Buzzer made its debut back on June 2, 1916, making it 93 years old on this very day!
If you’ve never seen it before, I posted the very first Buzzer issue at Christmas time.
And for fun, here’s a couple random June issues from the archives! (They’re all so good, it’s hard to pick just one :)
- June 16, 1922 (2.3 MB)
- June 6, 1958 (5.6 MB)
- June 16, 1961 (2.5 MB)
- June 6, 1986 (2.1 MB)
If you’ve got any good Buzzer stories or just some fun birthday wishes to share, I’d love to hear you in the comments!
happy birthday Buzzer!
I like the 1958 one – some of them are still worthwhile today. If only I can pay $0.35 to go to UBC and back :) It would be good to juxtapose these trips with what the readers suggest in the July print issue.
I’ll even take the 1986 fares – $3.00 daypass! $46.00 FareCard!
Keep the old Buzzers coming, Jhenifer! Any plans to archive the remaining back issues?
We are archiving the back issues! We put out a call for old issues in an earlier issue of the Buzzer, and we’re scanning the ones we’ve got. Eventually they will get on the website… we’re waiting for a few things to fall in line though. I’ll keep you updated on their progress :)
[…] Make sure to let me know if you see tidbits to share. More issues from the 1950s will be uploaded soon! You can also see four fun issues from the Buzzer’s 93rd birthday. […]
