ALERT! : More info

Grab a spot on the Buzzer blog’s Canada Line tour this Friday!

Yay — after much begging, I’ve been finally able to arrange for a tiny Buzzer blog tour of the Canada Line, for this Friday, July 24 at 10 am-11 am!

I have three open spots on the tour, and since it’s going to be impossible to pick between you guys, I thought I’d do a draw.

To enter, please send an email to by Wed July 22 at 4pm with the following info:

  • make your subject line “Canada Line tour”
  • include your name and phone number (so I can contact you quickly!)
  • include the answer to this skill-testing question: 37 * 65 + 12 – 43

I’ll randomly draw three names from everyone who gets the correct answer and contact you on Wednesday afternoon. (All entries will be deleted after the draw is over — I won’t keep your personal info for anything.)

Some notes to keep in mind though:

  • One entry per person!!!!
  • If you enter, you have to come on the tour – you can’t give your spot to anyone else.
  • No entries from employees of TransLink or its family of companies — there is an intro event planned for you guys later.
  • The tour starts at Waterfront Station on Friday at 10 a.m., so you must be able to make it there in time.
  • Sadly, we will not be able to accommodate those with mobility issues on this tour, since elevators at all stations are not yet in service.
  • This draw is only open to those in Canada.

Also – one more rule – must take a camera and must post pictures about the tour.

Sorry I can’t enter (wouldn’t be able to make it to Waterfront by 10am start time if I could get off work).

    *crosses fingers*

    Oh man… a 3 in ???? chance.

Hopefully someone brings a good video camera, the video quality on my digital camera is very poor.

    Hey Jhen!

I entered, but one of the e-mails didn’t have the answer to the skill testing question. I hope I am not disqualified, because I really would like to go. It would give me something to do for my day off :p

  • By Henry A., July 20, 2009 @ 9:31 pm

I REALLY hope I’m chosen because I’ll be moving to the US for grad school on Aug 11th. I’m pretty much dying to take the C-Line, especially I live in Richmond, only 5 min drive from Richmond Centre!!

  • By Trevor Harrison, July 20, 2009 @ 11:31 pm

I have a 24mbps 1080p AVCHD camera someone can use. I have to know you though (since it’s not mine, but my moms technically). :D

  • By Bryan, July 21, 2009 @ 5:24 am

Well this would give me an excuse to take off work for the day.

  • By ;-), July 21, 2009 @ 7:05 am

@Trevor: How do you plan to showcase the 1080p/24mbps footage?

Most video sites are limited to 720p and something like 5mbps or less.

  • By Jeff Summers, July 21, 2009 @ 7:45 am

I guess I am glad that I already have this Thursday and Friday off work…perfect luck/timing.

  • By Jhenifer Pabillano, July 21, 2009 @ 9:27 am

David M, that is a great rule. Yes, if you come along on the tour, please share your photo/video online with everybody!

CJ: you’re not disqualified, I won’t be that mean :)

*sniff* Sadly I will be in Edmonton this weekend but to the three lucky winners, have fun! I’ll be riding the recently opened LRT extension to South Campus to kick off my four city rapid transit tour: Edmonton-Vancouver-Seattle-Portland!

  • By CJ Stebbing, July 21, 2009 @ 12:24 pm

    Thanxs jhen.

I hope I can get a spot. I can’t attend the open house the next day. Hard to be in 2 places at once, especially when you live in White Rock….:) :(

  • By Shane, July 21, 2009 @ 3:27 pm

Jhenifer, do you know how long the tour will be? I need to be back at Waterfront station at noon.

    Thank you!

  • By Jhenifer Pabillano, July 21, 2009 @ 3:27 pm

The tour is only an hour!

  • By CJ Stebbing, July 21, 2009 @ 4:10 pm

    An hour?

Wow….I guess that’s why they call it rapid transit.

If we do win, the entrance the the one that’s at the current Waterfront Entrance right? Where the skytrain/WCE/C-bus are??? Lol

  • By Jhenifer Pabillano, July 21, 2009 @ 4:13 pm

Yes, that’s where you would meet :)

  • By Jhenifer Pabillano, July 21, 2009 @ 4:18 pm

Also, since the tour is only an hour, we can only do the YVR leg or the Richmond leg, but not both. Majority will rule from the winning group :)

  • By CJ Stebbing, July 21, 2009 @ 4:37 pm

    They can’t do both? Lol

Oh well….I think the YVR one might be cool….lol

  • By Trevor Harrison, July 21, 2009 @ 6:35 pm

I added in my e-mail I nominate someone else (as well as me) as they would take the best photos for the group.

  • By George P., July 21, 2009 @ 10:20 pm

I’m handing the torch over to the other enthusiasts to cover this one… I can’t make it that morning. I have to tie up some loose ends before I go to work for the afternoon, seeing as I’ll be leaving overseas on Sunday!

  • By CJ Stebbing, July 22, 2009 @ 8:54 am

How many entries do u have jhen? (So far)

  • By Jhenifer Pabillano, July 22, 2009 @ 9:36 am

Since this morning, I have 51 entries.

Trevor, sadly, as I’ve outlined in the original post, if your name gets pulled, you’re the only one who can come — otherwise it’s not very fair to the others who entered!

  • By CJ Stebbing, July 22, 2009 @ 10:16 am

    That’s a 1:17 chance, if my math is correct….lol

  • By Trevor Harrison, July 22, 2009 @ 12:50 pm

No No no, I was implying he should be entered as he would produce stunning photos (compared to me :( ).
