The new Commercial-Broadway Station entrance is open!
The new Commercial-Broadway Station entrance is open!
Hey—the new 10th ave entrance at Commercial-Broadway Station is now open!
Go ahead and use it: there’s a lovely new staircase leading up to platforms 3 and 4, a shiny new up escalator, plus great new lighting and glass walls at the ground level. (See the full list of upgrades here — plus here’s what it used to look like.)
Just be aware of a couple of things:
- The elevator is still out: it’s awaiting inspection and will be working soon!
- The ticket vending machines at the new entrance are cash-only today.
- Watch out: some construction is still going on!
- An official opening will happen in a few weeks.
I have to say it’s pretty exciting that the new entrance is open so soon. Remember that the initial end date was December 2009? Plus, it’s great that we never had to close the station during the whole upgrade period!
OK, now here’s a few more photos of the new station entrance, plus links to past upgrade posts.
The past posts on the upgrade project again, if you’d like to check them out:
I’m looking forward to using the new 10th Avenue entrance. Sometimes I ride my bike to work. On the way home, I’m sometimes beat after a long day and I don’t want to ride all the way home. It will be nice to just go along the 10th Avenue bike route and just swing right into the new entrance.

Hey! I just noticed there are new ticket validator-machines! =P
They look smaller… while they look bigger… lol!
Well the signs in the (formerly known as Commercial Drive) elevator say that the B-way elevator will be out from June-September it’s technically overdue… but if the issue is Elevator Inspector red tape I guess that’s understandable…. The new station looks a lot more “open” than before, removing the old elevator has been a great improvement imo.
Are there still plans to widen the overpass over Broadway?
Dave2: Were there plans mentioned to widen the overpass? Just curious. As far as I know right now, no further work is planned for the station.
Are they planning on allowing debit and credit transactions on the ticket machines in the future or are they keeping them cash only?
The press release said the TVMs were cash only just for the first day. As far as I know, they’re TVMs like all others on the Expo/Millennium Lines, so they will allow debit and credit.
The station is looking so much more modern. Good job, Translink!
Dave2: I’ve just got some more info from our planners! So yes, as mentioned in the original overview post, Phase II of the Broadway station work will focus on capacity increases at the station. Widening the overpass is one of the measures under discussion to increase capacity. Phase II hasn’t been scoped out yet, so these modifications will be at least a few years away, but there are plans to do it at some point.
