The Ride-Share bear at Scott Road Park-and-Ride
October 5, 2009
I can’t help but share these pictures of the Ride-Share bear at Scott Road Park-and-Ride this morning. What a ham!
As I’m sure you know by now, the Ride-Share bear was out encouraging people to register at ride-share.com, as part of TransLink Ride-Share Week this week. Here’s the post with more info on Ride-Share Week.
And here’s one more photo of the bear!

Is this really the best way to spend money while budget crunch has you guys planning to cut service?
MW: Promoting ridesharing is part of TransLink’s mandate. It’s a viable option to ease congestion, transport costs, and save people time, and it can be a great fit for those who find transit doesn’t fit their needs. Also, the costs for Ride-Share Week are quite low—so if the cost of Ride-Share Week was cut, it’s not like it would somehow boost transit service. For example, buying a new bus costs in the millions of dollars, which is certainly far, far more than we’re spending on the week.
Nothing against ride sharing. Just think having a guy in a bear suit may not be the best use of resources at this time.
MW: Well, we’ve got to draw attention to ridesharing somehow… and a bear is a pretty cost-effective (and funny) way of doing it!
If you really want exposure you can send him to GlobalTV next summer for an afternoon (click on my name link). Just stay away from Jack.
why is there hate for the ride-share bear?! definitely made my morning yesterday :)
I know: it’s unbearable!
Ha ha ha…
jebus, why the hate-on for ride-share bear?
that’s like saying the powersmart program from bc hydro is a wasteful and frivolous program.
and this bear is so cute!
I really enjoyed this post, especially the “examples in this post” portion which made it really easy for me to SEE what you were talking about without even having to leave the article. Thanks
