Help stuff a SkyTrain full of food for the Food Bank, Wed Dec 2
Help the B.C. Rapid Transit Company stuff a SkyTrain full of food this Christmas!
The company behind Expo and Millennium Line and West Coast Express is teaming up with Lamar Transit Advertising to help out the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and the Surrey Food Bank.
So on the evening of Wednesday, December 2, 2009, bring your non-perishable food items, monetary donations, or an unwrapped gift to the Expo and Millennium Lines!
From 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., drop off boxes will be located near ticket machines at the following SkyTrain Stations:
- King George,
- Scott Road,
- Metrotown,
- Lougheed,
- Commercial-Broadway,
- Burrard, and
- Waterfront.
You can also give your donations to BCRTC volunteers on the ‘Moving Forward, Giving Back’ train, which will be picking up donations during non-peak service throughout the day. The train’s capacity is 40,000 lbs, which could help feed 31 families for 1 year!
Interestingly enough, the inaugural ‘Help Us Stuff a Train for the Food Bank’ event happened on the first day of last winter’s record breaking snowfall, yet passengers and BCRTC staff still managed to donate 8,000 lbs of food and about $1,200 in cash. That’s about a quarter of the train!

Will they have a train filled with 31,000 lb of food on display? I’d love to see that!
Hi Donald,
How about this – if wonderful passengers like you help fill it – we’ll make sure to post pictures of what it looks like!
We have about 320,000 passenger boardings per weekday (Expo, M-Line & Canada Line). Can you imagine if even a tenth of them brought one can of food? Looking forward to a great day!
Good thing we aren’t using the Seabus. The image there may not look pretty.
I hope the skytrain people get a picture of it. I really want to see a skytrain filled with food.
I’ve just checked, and Jennifer (that’s SkyTrainLady) has said pictures will be coming in the next day or so.
