A heads up on two things happening this week!
TransLink’s AGM is on the SeaBus, Tue May 11
A reminder that we’re having a floating Annual General Meeting this year!
To join us, come out at 10 a.m. to the SeaBus Waterfront Terminal on Tuesday, May 11. See this blog post for more info.
UBC Line in-person workshops, May 11 and May 13
Two more UBC Line in-person community consultation workshops are on this week.
- May 11, 2010, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Centre for Digital Media at the Great Northern Way Campus, 122-577 Great Northern Way Vancouver - May 6, 2010, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Vancouver Masonic Centre, 1495 West 8th Avenue, Vancouver
Come by if you’re interested! These are the last two workshops for the UBC Line consultation: see the full list of dates.
I gotta say, the new seabus wasn’t quite as great as I expected.
First of all, the front and backside of the Seabus blocks half of the ocean views, and the seats are a little lower than it’s older friends. On the positive side the seats are super nice and comfy, and the sign boards are quite neat. :)
But the new SeaBus also gets too many breaks than it’s older friends. Does this mean it needs more refueling?
The new SeaBus vessel isn’t as quiet as when it was new and it wasn’t even that long ago! =P And the doors are way slower than the old vessels when they are opening and closing. OH and the recording for the safety announcement has changed! When the new vessel was still new, it would put the original announcement (by Rik Kiviaho) on repeat for four times (strange!). But now it’s a different recording for the safety announcement. The seats are comfy though =D

Edit: I figured out why the new SeaBus doesn’t operate that much. There is no funding for it! It is just used as a backup now. There is not even enough money to operate the three ferry sailings like during the Olympics.
At least that’s what I’ve heard from the media.
zack: I don’t think it requires more stops for refueling — have you been noticing that? From what I’d heard, the new SeaBus is in fact more fuel efficient than the older ones.
If the new SeaBus is more fuel efficient, then why is it more noisy than the older ones?
zack: Well, the quality of fuel efficiency isn’t really related to the noise it generates. But many adjustments were made in the design of this SeaBus to bring it up to current safety codes and environmental requirements — the adjustments may certainly have created noises from the new SeaBus that you wouldn’t hear in the old ones. Here is a brief description of the changes made:
