The Canada Line bike and pedestrian bridge turns one too
August 20, 2010
Let’s not forget that the Canada Line bike and pedestrian bridge turned one this month as well!
The bridge formally opened on August 14, 2009: here’s the Buzzer blog post about the opening.
So far, the bridge seems to be humming along nicely. Counters installed on the bridge in January 2010 have tracked 73,469 bike trips across the bridge, as of August 12, 2010. The counters also show that 52% of the trips are into Vancouver and 48% are into Richmond.
Happy birthday, Canada Line bike and pedestrian bridge—here’s to another year of bike and walking traffic!

Guess I need to go in that direction. I’ve been enjoying hte Burrard street bridge bike lane so much but didn’t even KNOW about this bridge. Exciting!
That adds up to about 200 a day, which isn’t a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. It’s not too surprising, as it’s a bit out of the way and not that well connected on the Vancouver side, but hopefully it will grow, especially as the Marine Gateway development takes place.
Tessa: actually, it’s more like 350 per day, assuming the counter installation was done around mid-January.
Our bicycle club is having a ride to the Canada Line Bridge on Aug 14 to celebrate its 2nd birthday!
