The Downtown Historic Railway opens Sat Oct 16, 2010
Good news: the Downtown Historic Railway is back on track and will open at noon on Saturday, October 16, 2010!
The Railway runs two restored heritage interurban cars between Granville Island and Olympic Village Station — the Olympic Line streetcar used its tracks during the Games earlier this year.
The train will be offering afternoon rides during weekends in October. Check their schedule for full details!
And for more info on the Railway, here’s a few links. The Transit Museum Society runs the Railway along with the City of Vancouver: check out the TRAMS website and the City website for more info. As well, John Calimente over at Regarding Place wrote a seven-part series of articles about the Railway once: here’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
Didn’t this line use to go all the way to Science World before the Olympics?
JustMe: Yes it did. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong here, but as far as I know, security restrictions around the Olympic Village during the Games meant that the Olympic Line couldn’t go all the way to Science World, which in turn meant that the upgrades to the tracks done to accommodate the Olympic Line don’t extend all the way to Science World. Ergo service east of the Olympic Village is suspended indefinitely.

The chunk in the Olympic Village area got torn up. If you look on
the new First Avenue you can see the allowance set aside to rebuild the tracks. (That’s the strip you can,t park on while you are buying your condo.
Tariff: thanks!
plus a part near science world need be replace since they repave piece of the track so no one gets hurt during olympics. I think they are still trying plan have street car to stanley park in future since olympic time was a blast in street cars
