Service and fares for the 2010 holiday season
Service and fares for the 2010 holiday season
Note: I’m still on holiday until Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011! This is a scheduled post. (Visit this post for a list of alternate TransLink contacts if you need it.)
Reminder: make sure you know our holiday service and fares for Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Years holidays!
There is a main Holiday Service Schedules page on the TransLink site, but I’ve also copied the info below. Generally, transit services will run their standard schedules according to the day of the week, except where noted in the following list. I’ve also put in the applicable fare for each day.
Also, for the very latest on transit service conditions or more detail on these items, check the TransLink Twitter account, call 604-953-3333, or try the TransLink alerts page.
Christmas Eve – Friday, December 24, 2010
Regular weekday fares in effect.
West Coast Express afternoon trains depart downtown at 1:00, 3:00, 4:20, 5:30 and 6:20. There will be no TrainBus departure at 12:55 p.m., but all other regular runs will operate.
West Vancouver Transit will offer additional bus service for Horseshoe Bay ferry connections.
Expo and Millennium Lines will adjust service to accommodate midday office closures and earlier afternoon commuting peaks.
Christmas Day – Saturday, December 25, 2010
Sunday/holiday fares—only a single-zone fare is needed for travel in all zones all day.
Most bus routes will run according to their Sunday/holiday schedules; however, some routes will run less often due to lower Christmas Day demand.
Expo and Millennium Lines and SeaBus will run according to their Sunday/holiday schedule.
Canada Line will operate regular Friday service hours.
There will be no West Coast Express service on Christmas Day.
Boxing Day – Sunday, December 26, 2010
Sunday/holiday fares—only a single-zone fare is needed for travel in all zones all day.
Most bus routes will run according to Sunday/holiday schedules, with extended evening service on some routes to connect with the final SkyTrain Expo and Millennium Line trains and final SeaBus departures. Service will be enhanced during the day for some routes that serve major shopping destinations and entertainment venues. (Run your trips past our trip planner or call our customer information line at 604-953-3333 if you’re curious whether your route has extra service.)
Expo and Millennium Line service will start and finish according to its Saturday schedule – first train from King George at 6:08 a.m.; last train from Waterfront at 1:16 a.m. – and will feature more frequent service during midday to accommodate Boxing Day shopping crowds.
Canada Line will operate regular Saturday service levels with additional train service as required.
SeaBus will operate according to a Sunday/holiday schedule, but will extend late-night service according to a Saturday schedule.
New Year’s Eve – Friday, December 31, 2010
Regular weekday fares until 5 p.m., then free of charge until the end of service.
Additional buses will be put into service throughout the system to accommodate the large numbers of people we anticipate. However, the final NightBus departures will remain the same: 3:09 a.m. from downtown Vancouver except for the N24 Upper Lonsdale (3:12) and the N10 Brighouse Stn (4:39).
West Vancouver Blue Bus will have additional buses leaving downtown for Horseshoe Bay at 1:40 a.m. and, if required, 2:10 a.m.; an additional bus will leave Horseshoe Bay at 1:10 a.m. The C12 Lions Bay Community Shuttle will continue running until 12:48 a.m. from Caulfeild Village and the #256 Whitby Estates Community Shuttle will continue until 1:25 a.m. from Park Royal.
Expo and Millennium Lines and SeaBus will extend late-night service by one hour, with the last train and ferry leaving Waterfront Station at 2:16 a.m.
Canada Line service will be extended by one hour, ending at the last train leaving Waterfront Station at 2:05 a.m. towards YVR and 2:15 a.m. towards Richmond.
West Coast Express afternoon trains depart downtown at 1:00, 3:00, 4:20, 5:30 and 6:20, plus the regular TrainBus service. Please note, there will not be a 12:55 TrainBus, but all other TrainBuses will run on schedule.
New Year’s Day – Saturday, January 1, 2011
Regular Sunday/holiday fares.
Buses, SeaBus, Expo/Millennium Line, and Canada Line will operate on Sunday/holiday schedules.
There will be no West Coast Express service on New Year’s Day, Sunday Jan. 2, or Monday Jan. 3. All West Coast Express regular service will resume Tuesday Jan. 4.

And beyond that: Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone! Hope you have a great holiday season and a wonderful new year!
Here’s a pondering my other half and I had on Remembrance Day, alright, Sunday/Holiday fares in effect, does the 2+4/pass Sunday deal apply to holidays fare days? I would think so, but we weren’t sure.
Lesley has it. Statutory holidays count for the group ride offer.
As in London I think you all should have Christmas Day off!
Per the TransLink website:
Sunday and Holiday FareCard Special
On Sundays and Statutory Holidays you can use your FareCard to take five other riders with you for free! A total of six riders is allowed: Two adults (14 and older) and up to four children (13 and under) can ride on a single Adult FareCard, West Coast Express 28-day Pass, or Annual Employer Transit Pass. (Does not apply to Concession Passes.)
