Update: the Commercial-Broadway 99 stop will return to normal on Fri Dec 17, 2010

Yeep — I’ve just got word that the City construction has been delayed a bit, so the 99 stop will now return to normal on Friday December 17, 2010, not Wednesday December 15 as previously noted. Bear with us: I will keep you posted if that date changes again! I’ve updated the past post with the new info now too.

Broadway is supposed to be a “critical corridor” that is at capacity. I don’t see how the city/Translink could let such a vital link be impacted for two months. Maybe Broadway isn’t really so busy after all if it can be left to languish for weeks on end at reduced capacity.
Jason: Well, as far as I can tell, major disruptions like this rarely happen on the Broadway corridor precisely because it is such a critical roadway. But as Broadway is so busy, it’s not unreasonable that at least some upkeep is probably needed to keep the corridor in good shape. Bear in mind that the 99 service is still running at its normal rate — it’s only the stop that has been moved temporarily! I’m a regular 99 rider and I can’t remember a time in the past 6 years or so when roadwork has critically affected the stop/route so much. Can anyone refresh my memory if that’s not true?
Update:
Today at 12:05, I saw one of the CMBC Workers putting up a stop eastbound on the west side of broadway. It is stop # 61534.
I went and asked the worker, and he said that it will be a temporary stop. He said that continuing until feburary, there will be some times where the broadway east side stop (52102) will be closed for more construction. So, meanwhile, there will be two stops going eastbound at commercial at broadway. The next bus driver that came was tricked by the extra stop.
Also, I want to note that the westbound 9 ALMA stop is still on the west side of the street.
One last note, the timetables at the east side eastbound “9 Boundary” stop (52102) Has the times of the “9 commercial broadway station” on it. The buses turn left at commercial, and don’t reach the stop, so the timetables shouldn’t display the 9 Comm’l Bdway bus.
