Construction starting at Newton Exchange

If you catch the bus at Newton Exchange, you’ll likely notice some construction activity going on there over the next few months.

TransLink is making improvements to the exchange, partly to accommodate the new B-Line bus service from King George SkyTrain Station to White Rock from Newton Exchange to Guildford via King George Boulevard and 104th avenue which will begin in the fall. The upgrades will also:

  • Enhance passenger safety, security and access
  • Enhance the aesthetic quality of both the exchange and the surrounding areas
  • Optimize operational efficiency

We’ll be adding better lighting, seating and wayfinding singage, and accessible features at bus stop to aid people with disabilities.

What does this mean for you?

Your bus stop at Newton Exchange will move, but not far at all! (Check out the map below for details). And don’t worry, we’ll have lots of signs up so you’ll be able to find your way there easily.

We expect all the construction to be wrapped up sometime this summer, all ready for the new B-Line!

How’s the 301 going to get onto 72nd ave from that Bay? You can’t turn left off of 136B st?

Indeed, how is this going to work? Are all the buses going to enter on 137th and leave on 136B? Unless someone is planning on removing the center island, it’s impossible to turn left from 136B. Plus 72nd can get pretty busy and the lights are at 137th.

There is a turning loop in the field on the west side of 136B St that will play a key role in all this.

That turning loop may help with buses getting around inside the temporary bus exchange, but there’s still the problem of not being able to turn left from 136B onto 72nd.

The turning loop makes it possible to turn left from 137th St onto 72nd Ave.

I thought the plan was to run the B-Line between Guildford and Newton to start with but this post says King George Station to White Rock so have the plans changed or is this a mistake?

Hello all: Sorry for the late reply. Buses can turn left onto 72nd Ave from 137th St. after using the bus turnaround Northwest of the exchange. Only right hand turns are allowed on 136b.

Andrew: There was a mistake made in some of the materials. I’ve updated the info with the following, “Newton Exchange to Guildford via King George Boulevard and 104th avenue”. Thanks!
