Heads up: transit service changes start Monday, April 15, 2013
April 11, 2013
Look out: our seasonal transit service changes are starting on Monday, April 15, 2013!
Our seasonal changes happen four times a year in April, June, September, and December to reflect changes in passenger demand, and ensure services are efficient.
Make sure to read the the full list of changes here, but route changes of note include:
- 620 Tsawwassen Ferry/Bridgeport Station: to accommodate the seasonal increase in demand, capacity for the route will be increased. From April 15 until September 2 (Labour Day), between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., two 620 buses every hour (up from one per hour), will leave the Tsawwassen ferry terminal and Bridgeport Station. All 620 buses will be articulated.
- SeaBus: More SeaBus service on Sundays and holidays to reflect increased demand. Starting May 19, until September 2, 2013, the SeaBus will operate every 15 minutes (up from every 30 minutes) between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
- 150 White Pine Beach/Coquitlam Station: Beginning May 4, service to White Pine Beach resumes Saturdays, Sundays and holidays until Labour Day. Weekday (Monday to Friday) service will operate between June 10 and August 30.
- C26 Buntzen Lake Special/Coquitlam Station Special: Beginning June 15, service will resume to Buntzen Lake with trips operating on weekends and holidays until Labour Day.
- Routes with a seasonal decrease in demand will also see a decrease in frequency for the summer months, returning to higher frequencies in fall. That includes routes serving post-secondary institutions, who have less busy summer months, like the 9, 130, and 143.
Owing to construction, there will also be some temporary changes for the 4 route too. Here’s the reroute map, and the description of the changes:
- 4 Powell/Downtown: From April 15 until further notice, a shuttle service will operate between Waterfront Station and the Eton/ Renfrew Street terminus. Customers traveling east will transfer from #4 Downtown at Cordova and Seymour to the #4 Powell. Customers from the east (Powell) traveling west will transfer from the #4 Downtown to the #4 UBC at Cordova and Seymour. This shuttle service will operate every 15 minutes and less frequent in the evening.
- 4 UBC/Downtown: From April 15 until further notice, a shuttle service will operate between Waterfront Station and UBC. Customers traveling west will transfer from #4 Downtown at Cordova and Seymour to the #4 UBC. Customers from the east (Powell) traveling west will transfer from the #4 Powell to the #4 UBC at Cordova and Seymour. Shuttle service will operate every 15 minutes and less frequent in the evening.

Wish you guys would also mention that many other routes not mentioned/highlighted will also be seeing “adjustments” as of April 15.
Just in the Richmond/South Delta service area alone: Routes #403, 430, 601, 608 & C76 will see “altered/adjusted” schedules that will affect overall travel times/connections…
CHECK INDIVIDUAL SCHEDULES!!!
The 99 B-Line photo is not on Cambie. It’s on Main Street.
Thanks Kr – I thought I caught that, but have fixed it to say Main now!
I don’t know to take this as bad news or good news… At least with all the funding challenges there were no service decreases. But on the other hand, TL is too timid to test out any bus changes, permanent or Trial. There are NO, zero permanent service changes this round. There are efficiencies to be found in the system, improving service, reducing cost, and NOT removing any service. So despite the possible critism and publicity, TL’s Planning and operations must be ambitious like their wonderful Social Media Team, Trying out service optimization for one season.
Hi Kyle: worry not, the service optimization changes that we consulted on will be coming in late 2013!
Why are routes with ‘two’ portions not numbered differently and interlined?
Anyone on a route like this going to the other ‘half’ should be transferring or taking another route entirely. It seems to me, especially in the case of the #4, way-finding will be unnecessarily confusing.
I noticed the bus stops on downtown Granville have been changed to reflect the 4 “West 4th” terminating downtown, but notified passengers to take the 4 Powell on Cordova, without mentioning to board a 4, 6, 7, 10, or 50 to get there.
And shouldn’t the 209 be re-routed and timed so it can also meet the terminating 4 “West 4th” at Cordova & Seymour?
Hi Eric: here’s the answers from service planning from you.
Cliff: can you explain that a little more for me? I don’t quite understand the question – do you mean that the two halves of the 4 should have different numbers? We used to do that back in the 80s but we stopped!
Exactly! Routes like the 4, 7, 14, 16, and 22. It seems like it would be easier to assign unused numbers to them. 4/12, 7/11, 14/23, 16/18, 22/21.
We used to do it with the 15/17, 14/16, and still do with the 5/6.
I always thought the Powell Shuttle should be numbered as 12 Powell.. Much less confusing than 2 route 4’s.
@Cliff
– #7 Dunbar should be paired with #24 Nanaimo… #11 is Stanley Park
– #14 Hastings should be paired with #10 Tenth-UBC, but now the number is used by Granville, which was historically #20.
– #22 Knight should go with #23 Macdonald.. 21 is Victoria ;)
Did the construction schedule/scope on Powell get changed? Only a couple of weeks ago, I saw a reroute map where the 4 shuttle, 7, 209, 210, 211, and 214 were all routed via Hastings west of Clark. If that’s not going ahead, why is the shuttle still being split off from the rest of route 4?
I would suggest that any “shuttle”, or bus doing just part of a route, should at least have an “a” beside the route number.
Like the #250 in West Van, the short turn Dunderave trips have an “a” in the route number…
I notice that bus #4 UBC does a reroute via Broadway. As soon as it goes on Granville Street Bridge, it automatically changes to bus #14 UBC. And bus #84 does local service w/b.
@sean. I would like to input on that as well. Like bus #100 via trapp. It should be bus “#100A-22nd Street Stn. Via Trapp.”
@SS. It should be rerouted. Like they did with 5 & 6 to the west end. Bus #12 Powell/Downtown Shuttle is a good idea. So that’s only a temporary route during construction. It was very similar with Expo 86. Remember bus #13 Canbie anyone?
