For the metrotown station,
the display mentions “Main bus routes on South Central Blvd.” hence heading East…but most of the “main” bus routes starting at Metrotown go west (19,49,129,130,430)…
what kind of new mysterious routing you have in mind for them?
Shouldn’t one read:
*all routes going West start from the current bus loop (BTW, the buses are shown circulating in the opposite direction from the actual one in the bus loop: an artist approximation?)
*routes going East start from the South Central Blvd
* drop off on North Central Bld (Bus coming from East) and South Central Blvd (bus coming from West)
It seems to me that the original proposal with a bus loop using Beresfort was a better option (all bus accessible right from the skytrain and easy transfer between buses as well): why you have give up on this?
In any case, and especially in the current proposal, exit on the East and West house should be done facing Central bld (and Beresfort), to minimize walking distance between escalator and bus stop)
That said, Good thing to see the passerelle reestablished.
Hi Voony. The plan currently is for these bus routes to head east on Central Boulevard before turning around on surrounding streets to head back west. I encourage you to share your feedback about the Metrotown Station and Exchange Upgrades by heading to http://www.translink.ca/metrotown and completing the online survey by December 15.
Voony: Burnaby didn’t want the bus loop on Beresford. So the loop is staying where it is and the major bus routes will have their stops on Central Blvd instead of pulling into the loop. Drop off will be next to one of the stationhouses with pickup by the other one.
The 19 will still go to the loop (expensive to redo trolley wires). It was skytrain people (and not bus people) at the open house) so I didn’t get an answer to how the rest of the routes will get into/out of the area without using the bus loop.
Thanks for your answers
I understand that route 49 and 430 could loop on Willingdon- central Boulevard-Imperial.
So doing, that will increase the 49-430 travel in west direction by 1km, and add 3 more traffic lights : google map, suggests that will cost at least 2mn additional travel time on each trip (what seems also indicate the schedule of bus 116 already using this route partially).
A brief computation (at $100 per bus hour as suggested by the BPSR), suggest that will incur at least $300,000 additional annual operating cost (just for line 49 and 430).
…and way much more if this silly idea of a 430 B line, as per the mayors council plan, see lights
line 129 and 130 (also targeted to be converted in Bline) are also concerned by increased travel time an operating cost due to the proposed solution…
It will also means you could be able to use 49,430, 130 to go let say to the Burnaby Library/Crystal place, but the return trip will be virtually not available using the same bus: that is not good either!
I don’t see the plan for the buses as well thought…
Question, has Stadium Station ever been considered for upgrades? It serves concerts, games, a massive downtown population, and a massive (newish) community around it that didn’t exist in 1986. Yet, it has only one elevator to its name and poor accessability around the Costco-side entrance, its dark, the paint scheme makes the station always look ditry, there is a lot of wasted space where you by tickets that could be filled up with more shops and things… Just saying.
fyi… after Expo was over. The Costco-side was closed. It was only an emergency exit. Wheelchairs and pedestrains had to walk down to Pender street to get to the station.
Today, there is an elevator outside the Costco store that takes people up to the Beatty street level.
I could not make it to the open house for Commercial-Broadway but I wonder will the new east platform be longer than platforms 3 and 4? If so then it’s great in order to accommodate a 6-car Mark II or III train.
P.S. I would like to suggest to introduce phase III in order for the outbound platform to extend yet accommodate longer cars including Mark II and III so the trains would not collide with the platform when traveling to Nanaimo Station and beyond. Currently, as trains departs Commercial-Broadway platform 4, it merges back with the inbound track. The purpose is to convert platforms 3 and 4 from island platforms to side platforms similar to Nanaimo Station, Edmonds Station, and Brentwood Town Centre Station so future platform extensions is possible with minimal impacts on guideways and train service.
