Westham Island Bridge undergoing repairs on Apr. 13

Westham Island Bridge

An oversized truck recently hit an overhead steel portion of the Westham Island Bridge causing some damage.

An inspection by TransLink’s engineering consultants has determined that the bridge is still safe for pedestrians, cyclists, and passenger vehicles only, which includes pick-up trucks. To ensure the safety of all bridge users, due to the weight restriction of the bridge, commercial trucks will not be able to cross the bridge at this time.

Repairs will begin early afternoon on Apr. 13 during which time the bridge will need to be closed to all traffic. Repairs are expected to be complete around 10 p.m. on the same day.

The contractor doing the repairs will open the bridge and clear the traffic waiting to cross approximately every hour until the bridge is repaired. Once the temporary repair is complete, the bridge can reopen to all traffic, and a permanent repair plan will be developed.

We apologize for the inconvenience to all impacted bridge users.
