How to use TransLink’s on-demand bike lockers
Cycling and multi-modal transit trips just got easier in Metro Vancouver! As part of TransLink’s goal to make it easier for people to combine cycling and transit into their everyday travel, on-demand bike lockers are now available at select transit hubs across the region! Visit translink.ca/bikeparking to find a location near you.
In four easy steps, and just 10 cents per hour (capped at $1 per day, and $10 for unlimited monthly subscription.), you can easily add cycling as part of your commute.
Download and open BIKEEP app
Getting started with BIKEEP is simple. Download the free app through the GooglePlay or App Store on your smartphone and create an account. That’s it! You’re ready to go. You can download the App anytime, but we recommend doing so before your first use so you’re ready to go when you arrive at your chosen bike locker.
Find your locker
When you arrive at your desired on-demand bike locker, open the App and choose your location. Select the closest available locker to use. select “Yes” to start paid parking and follow the prompts.
During the pilot, on-demand bike lockers are available at Moody Centre Station, Carvolth Exchange and VCC-Clark Station. In the coming months, 71 bike lockers will be installed across six stations:
- Moody Centre Station (Available now)
- Carvolth Exchange (Available now)
- VCC-Clark Station (Available now)
- 22nd Street Station (Available now)
- Lonsdale Quay Exchange
- VCC-Clark Station
- Richmond-Brighouse Station
In addition to new bike lockers, you can now access new on-demand bike racks at Moody Centre Station with additional racks coming to Lonsdale Quay Exchange later this summer.
Load the locker
Once you confirm your locker and payment, the App will activate the locker and the door will unlock. You will have one minute to open the door, load the locker with your bike and other gear (make sure to load the rear of the bike first or it won’t fit!)
Close and lock
The last step is close the door, and verify that your on-demand bike locker is locked, both physically AND within the App.
Pro Tip: Always pull on the bar to verify your on-demand bike locker is locked!
In addition to new bike lockers, we have also installed new on-demand bike racks at Moody Centre Station with additional racks coming to Lonsdale Quay Exchange later this summer. These new bike parking options join a suite of currently available options across the transit network, including Bike Parkades, bike lockers, and bike racks.
Will you use the on-demand bike lockers?
I would love to see on-demand bike lockers at Lafarge Lake- Douglas station. I do not trust bike parkades because bike thefts still occurs frequently from the bike parkades. I would definitely bike to school if on-demand bike lockers were a reality at Lafarge Lake- Douglas station! Please install on-demand bike lockers at Lafarge Lake- Douglas station!
And how does one retrieve the bike?
I’m guessing you use the app to unlock the locker. That is unless your phone has no juice.
Yes how to retrieve//?? Well my locker wouldn’t unlock! It told me it was available! with my bike in it..I had to then rent it again to get it to open. I had tapped all relevant buttons on the app and the app showed that it was available. It would not open when unlocked through the app. No one answered the support line when I called…straight to voicemail. Yeh man. Well I did get 13 invoices from Bikeep though as I cycled through the app to try and open the door. Finally I got it open by renting it again and took the bike out. Then the last button which is titled ‘close session?’ I tapped and the locker once again shows as available. I admit I am an old guy, but this was very obtuse direction wise for me. That or the app is glitched. I use Amazon lockers..easy. These should be easy too so there is either glitch ISM at that particular locker or what I don’t know. All the vids kind of skip over retrieval as well??
