Free transit for veterans on Remembrance Day
Free transit for veterans on Remembrance Day
To honour the service and sacrifices of past and present veterans, TransLink and its operating companies are offering free transit on Remembrance Day to veterans, members of the Armed Forces, police and fire departments, Coast Guard, and BC Ambulance.
Eligible customers don’t have to tap in to pay, all day on buses and HandyDART. One accessible fare gate will be left open at all SeaBus, SkyTrain and Canada Line stations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Veterans and eligible members will not be required to tap their Compass Cards, instead we ask they present their badge, military ID, record of service card or appear in uniform to receive free service.
Bus, SkyTrain and SeaBus services will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule, West Coast Express will not operate. Customers will only need a 1-Zone fare for travel across the system.
We will observe a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m., with all SkyTrain, SeaBus, and buses paying respects at the stop reached closest to the hour. Buses will display “Lest We Forget” on the destination screen.
BC Ferries and BC Transit are also offering free service to veterans and service members in collaboration with TransLink. This partnership ensures that all eligible customers can travel anywhere in the province for free on Remembrance Day.
