Fall into increased transit service, starting on Sept. 5
Fall into increased transit service, starting on Sept. 5
As summer ends and people fall back into their routines with a return to work and school, we’re increasing transit service on several key bus routes, starting on Sept. 5.
The highlights include:
- 9 Boundary / Commercial–Broadway / Granville / Alma / UBC (SEASONAL)
- Service on Route 9 will go all the way to UBC during weekday peak hours instead of ending its route at Alma Street.
- 116 Edmonds Station / Metrotown Station
- Service is increasing to every 10-12 minutes during weekday p.m. peak periods (from every 12-15 minutes) and increasing to 10-minute service between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. (from every 12 minutes).
- 430 Brighouse Station / Metrotown Station
- Service is increasing to 12-minute frequencies during afternoon peak hours on weekdays (from 15-minute frequencies).
As well, we’re increasing service on bus route 104 22nd Street Station / Annacis Island, 106 New Westminster Station / Edmonds Station, 128 Braid Station / 22nd Street Station, 323 Newton Exchange / Surrey Central Station, and 601 South Delta / Bridgeport Station.
Routes 104 and 128, not only serve Braid and 22nd Street stations, but also multiple schools in the area. This increase allows the two routes to better serve those urban centres and to alleviate crowding. The increased service on routes 106, 323, and 601 means extra space on board at critical times during the day.
We’re also adjusting schedules on five routes, including the R4 41st Ave RapidBus and 25 Brentwood Station / UBC, to match service with when customer demand is highest.
Ridership on the system is currently around 75 per cent of pre-pandemic levels, while our services remain at or near pre-pandemic levels. We’re constantly monitoring systemwide ridership trends and adjusting service on routes based on that data.
