Vancouver’s trolleybus network turns 75 this Aug. 16!
We’re celebrating this milestone with the Transit Museum Society by offering FREE rides on two historic trolleybuses between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Aug. 16.
Rides start across the street from Waterfront Station on W. Cordova St., between Seymour and Richards Street.
The buses depart about every 20 minutes and will travel on a loop along Burrard, Davie, Granville and back to Waterfront Station.
We expect the historic trolleybus rides to be very popular, so get there early! It’s first come, first served.
Providing these rides are the 1947 Canadian Car Brill T-44 and a 1954 Canadian Car Brill T-48A trolley bus — the original trolleybus models in Vancouver.
The Brill T-44 features the original cream-coloured, BC Electric paint job that launched with the trolleybus network in 1948. The Brill T-48A features the B.C. Hydro and Power Authority paint job.
These two models were among the first to arrive on the streets of Vancouver, as part of the ambitious “rails-to-rubber” conversion to decommission the streetcar network.
Our trolleybus fleet today consists of 262 forty- and sixty-foot buses built by New Flyer. We’re the only transit system in Canada that operates trolleybuses and our fleet is one of the largest in North America!
