Here’s how Providence Health Care is making employee travel more affordable

Rising costs of monthly expenses like groceries, rent or mortgage payments, and gas are a concern to many Metro Vancouver residents. Employers like Providence Health Care are helping where they can.

Providence joins more than 30 sustainability leaders, like Vancouver Coastal Health and Vancouver International Airport (YVR), as Transit-Friendly Employers who offer at least a 50% transit subsidy for employees. In doing so, they reduce employee travel expenses while enhancing employee job satisfaction and meeting sustainability goals.

Carly, a registered nurse at St. Paul’s Hospital which Providence operates, saves around $50-75 per month through the transit subsidy. Her co-workers who purchase 2-Zone or 3-Zone passes save at least $100 per month.

For employees who normally purchase 1, 2, or 3-Zone Monthly Passes, they’d save around $630 to $1,130 per year when employers pay half the price of their passes.

The money they save from the subsidy is money they can allocate elsewhere, like to save up for a short-term or long-term goal or to pay for recreational activities.

Additionally, employees can use their transit passes for personal trips as well as work. And by choosing transit as their primary mode of travel, they reduce their carbon footprint significantly.
